I was reading from 1 John 3 today and came on these verses: 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
When we take God at His word and apply it to our lives, it often involves stepping out of our comfort zone. But in so doing, it also opens us to unforgettable adventures.
Levi's brother Victor teaches a Bible study at his church (in Pucallpa, Peru). One evening he was teaching from this scripture and challenged the brethren to look for a practical way to demonstrate the love of God during that week. And as the teacher, he himself prayed for a way.

Around that time his mother calls him - "Shelita [speaking of me] has to go to Lima and needs someone to go with her - can YOU accompany her?" He was delighted to have this opportunity. I paid his way, and gave him 100 soles (the equivalent of about 40 bucks) for his family in his absence, because we'd be gone some days.
It's a long bus ride, and so we were able to get to know each other better. Victor got to go inside the US Embassy with me, and we stayed with their sister Nilsa and family - whom he hadn't seen in many years. So, by obeying God and being available to show His love in a practical way, not only did he bless me with his assistance, but HE was blessed. And he was able to share from his experiences with his Bible students.
