Dh diagnosis

Monday, July 22, 2013

After much wrong diagnoses and treatments, dh finally learned he is very vitamin D deficient. The foot numbness of last few years, thinning bones despite lots of running and other weight bearIng exercise and several other problems are likely from this and most are likely permanent. So sad and unnecessary. He is taking massive doses of D and potassium now to get it where it should be before surgery to fuse two ruptured disks and make space for some pinched nerves. I continue to pray for healing and know that sometimes that comes through the docs. The next few months will be challenging, especially since he now has no trained back-up at work - the last one was called back to a war zone as soon as dh had him trained well to cover. Dh has put off this surgery for about five years and has really suffered. I hate to see him in such pain. He had very successful back surgery 15 years ago. This is a bit different, but hopefully will go as well. Time will tell.

Prayers for you and hubby. I am sorry to hear he is hurting but I am also glad he found out about his vitamin D level. Tell him to sit out without sunsccreen for 10-20 minutes a day and that helps a lot also. keep me posted on things.

Vitamin D is deficient in most people, but when it gets massive, it is really a health risk. We use sunblock and that also blocks our "D" absorption. I had to take massive doses of D for a while to catch up (but luckily did not experience all his medical problems). Now I just take 1000 mg/day. Good luck with the surgery and all the pain. Hope it is a vast improvement now he is diagnosed (and treated) correctly.

Will keep YOU and your DH in my prayers - it is really rough when our loved ones are in pain and there is little we can do to make them feel better. (HUGS)

So sorry to hear all of this. Just had surgery this past Feb after years of being told I was NOT ready for surgery and given shots that did little to nothing....in fact the one shot only made pain worse. My Dh last year had surgery for back....twenty years before that had same type of back surgery. Yes there are some Dr's out there that are God send and unfortunately there are some that just plain don't listen. As an article I read on Dr Nancy Snyderman from Today Show.............all patients have voices that deserve to be heard!!
I pray that all goes well with the surgery and God give you both strength with his recovery...I thank God for my DH's help during the recovery process. emoticon

So sorry to hear. Some doctors and dietitians recommend that we get our vitamins from food only. I don't believe in this. I was born from a mother who gave birth to children in a row -- sixth of eight! The child just born before me was a stillborn so when my mother who conceived me (not even two months after he was born) she was weak and depressed. I was born and was sickly. Without vitamins, I probably would not have survived the first 5 years.

I wish your husband well on his surgery and wish you lots of courage in his recuperating. Sending you many hugs to you both.

Lise

I had a vitamin D issue and now go to the tanning salon once a week. Counterintuitive, I know, but it worked. Good luck with your hubby's surgery. My hubby went through the same thing only the problem was from diabetes. It is better but not the result he was hoping for. Which was to be young again. Don't we all want that!!

Will pray that all goes well. My dh had back surgery last year and this one was much easier for him then the first back in 1977. He did what the dr. told him after surgery and now is doing great--no back/leg pain.
