Thanks to my friend, Cindy, for this link, which suggests some healthy substitutes for some common cravings, based on the nutrients which we might actually be craving when we think we want chocolate or something salty.
I've had a lot of terribly urgent cravings in the last year. It's kind of like being pregnant all the time, except I've been pregnant, and it wasn't so bad.
It started with my body being terribly out of whack when I went on a very restricted diet, due to food allergies. I felt much better for a few weeks, and then things started going all haywire because my diet wasn't balanced and I just wasn't getting enough nutrients. I mean, it was an improvement, because I wasn't horribly ill, anymore, but I've been doing a balancing act since then, trying to eat enough of the foods that I'm intolerant to, so that I don't get sick from improper nutrution, but not so much that I get ill from food intolerances. All the while completely avoiding the completely allergic foods.
So the good news is that the doctor is helping me with some of the worst deficiencies now, and I'm getting a bit of my energy back, and I sincerely hope that this will be enough of a boost to get the ball rolling again.
And now that I'm armed with some more information, I can try to pack in some magnesium when all I want to do is eat a pound of chocolate and oranges.
