Confession: I didn't really want to go on the vacation because I was so upset about my cat's death (see my previous blog) but surprisingly, I had a wonderful time. I guess it was a great way to distract myself from my grief.
We drove to Victoria, BC from Portland, taking the ferry from Port Angeles. We stayed two days there and I had high tea at the Empress (FANTASTIC!), visited the Royal Museum, Butchart Gardens and the Butterfly Gardens. We then drove to Tofino, a small resort town north of Victoria on the west cost. We stayed 4 days in a lovely resort condo right on the beach and my husband went fishing. The weather was wonderful and the condo in Tofino was absolutely gorgeous!
I really loved Canada and the people there were so nice! I can't wait to go there again!
Of course, it was a challenge to stay on my program, but i really managed to be moderate with everything. I made really good choices when eating out, yet I enjoyed some special treats. I also walked quite a bit almost every day. I actually felt my pants getting looser on the trip, LOL!
I had decided before we left that my goal would be to maintain or lose half a pound on the trip. I also decided to not track my food. We brought lots of healthy snacks in a cooler and we cooked while at the condo, but we did eat out several times in Victoria. I just tried to make good choices, and I focused on eating until I was "not hungry" rather than "stuffed".
I am extremely proud of myself for this, since on other vacations I usually either gained weight and over-indulged myself, or I was too strict "on a diet", and felt miserable, like I was missing out. This time i had fun, and ate moderately and mindfully most of the time. It was a win/win situation. Yey me!
Oh yeah, now I have lost 21 lbs.! AAAAYYYYY!
