Friday, Du & I traveled to nearby Kansas City (3 hours away) for a Royals' baseball game with some dear old friends. We used to make that trip yearly with these friends, but as our children were growing up, we grew less close, because kids take lots of time! Their daughter is all grown up now, and is a beautiful young married lady with a baby. But when she was younger, she was a Denver Bronco cheerleader for several years.
In her cheerleading days. Now she has her own business as a fitness trainer and works with the Bronco cheerleaders! Fitness is her life!
Her baby is only 8 months old, but she already has her beautiful figure back. Amazing!
Their son was a gifted baseball player, who is now going after a degree in the world of computer artistry. Two very talented kids! But now that all our kids are all grown up, we have re-connected with our old friends, and it's fun to get together with them more often. We relive old times, and also make new memories.
This weekend was wonderful--carefree and pleasant. We ate some good food at a couple of different restaurants, I tried to practice restraint--no bread with our Italian dinner, and a balsamic grilled chicken breast at Dave & Buster's. I had no treats at the game, other than a diet soda, even though it was buck night at the ballpark! A dollar bought a hot dog, peanut or a soda. And those baseball game nachos were really calling my name, but I knew I didn't really need them! I heard Suze Orman talking the other day about spending habits. She said to ask yourself, "Do I need it, or do I WANT it?" before you make a purchase. I think you can ask yourself the same thing with food, and let's face it, most of the time you don't NEED that snack!
Our good friends!
I wanted a long-sleeved Royals t-shirt to wear to the game. I knew it was going to be hot (BOY--was it ever HOT!), but my short-sleeved shirts just expose too much of those upper arm batwings of mine. So I found this very cute t-shirt on-line and got it ordered. It arrived Tuesday morning, and I liked it, but it really hugged my little chubby belly, showing off my tummy bulge, which is part excess skin, and part flab! So I got out my trusty full-length Spanx garment, that I bought for my appearance on the Today Show. It really holds me in, and hubby told me that I looked GOOD in my tight t-shirt!
The Royals cooperated with us this trip. When we went to a game in June, they lost 9-1. Both games were on Friday, so they have a great fireworks display after the games on Friday nights, and it's worth waiting for, even when the team is getting blown out. This time, they scored a run in the first inning and held on for a 1-0 win against the Detroit Tigers, who are currently leading their division. So it was a good win and a good trip. We spent the next day touring the Kansas City Speedway area, there's a huge outlet mall there called "The Legends." Evidently we did quite a bit of walking there, because even though I never took an actual "walk" yesterday, I got in over 5,000 steps according to my FitBit.
It was a good trip with old friends and I hope to make many more memories with them in the future!
