Bought my first pair of non-Nike running shoes since I was 13 or 14...Brooks. We actually went to a running store (Road Runner) and my husband got fit for custom insoles, and new shoes - and I asked the guy what compares with Nike in terms of toe-box room. He said Asics and Brooks, and he brought out a pair of each. I liked the way the Asics looked (bright, multi-colored), so I tried them on first. They felt virtually identical to my current Nike Air Maxs, so I thought, "sweet." They were more than I wanted to spend, but man, were they cool looking! He suggested I try the Brooks on too - even just one shoe on one foot. I slid one on, and was instantly in love. Like slippers! So, of course I immediately came home and ran four miles...WOOHOO!!!

I hiked 6.5 miles this morning with Mom and my 11-year-old son.

I've been a lot more active again this summer. I've decided to not acquiesce to my husband's couch-potato-y ways. I also make my 11-year-old ride his bike with me, since he's sedentary during the day.

I've lost about 10 pounds so far.

Also, the biggest deal to me...My last drink of Dr. Pepper was June 3. I have been completely Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew free since June 4. The only pop I've had is part of Dad's (brand) rootbeers. I'll probably have Vernors or Squirt in Michigan, but I'm not worried about the addiction with those. So happy, and proud of myself.

I'm also looking into winter stuff - I'm too cheap to get back into downhill skiing (it's become such an elitist cluster any more, and the traffic is no longer worth it).

I found out how I can "stud" my running shoes (without ruining them) and I'm going to look into cross-country skiing. I don't want to lose all I've gained internally by being lazy all winter (plus I'm hoping it'll keep the doldrums at bay).

Busy, busy!!
