Thirty days ago Charlie, our Weimaraner had surgery to remove a herniated disk. He came home with medications to ease the pain but he did little beyond lay on his bed, eat and go out to do his business. This is what his back looked like thirty days ago:

Currently he is walking two 10 minute walks a day and we are slowly easing him off his medications. In addition to eating and sleeping, he likes to go out and lay in the sun or spend time with whoever is in the kitchen. Today he even started to pick on our other dog, Molly. That was nice to see. This is what his back looks like today :

It's funny....things that normally are not good things become something to cheer about with a dog who has been having problems. My old pal Sheppi was a shepherd/collie mix who was able to reach up to the top of the counter and steal food -- he was always getting in trouble for that. Then he got hip displasia and could barely walk, let alone reach up to the counter. One night a friend was visiting and I baked her a birthday cake and set it on the counter to cool. Suddenly I heard a crash in the kitchen and went in to find Sheppi happily chowing down on the cake, the pan on the floor. No reprimand for him that day -- all I could say is "way to go Sheppi!"

It's all relative, isn't it? I'm so happy that Charlie can now pick on Molly!

Poor Charlie... and you too! So sad when our babies are sick and can't be as active as they want. His back looks so much better. Here's hoping for a complete recovery!!

When he starts raiding the garbage cans again we'll all celebrate...well maybe not the one who has to clean up the mess! LOL
