Being the person who receives that cup of tea feels good too. We can always choose to find meaning in being good to ourselves. If that isn't enough, then we can choose to go out and look for someone who needs it. All of us here on SP need each other. There is meaning in our lives wherever we decide to assign that meaning. I hope Audry figured that out.

I am 73 and have lived alone for many years. Have to say I love it, never thought I would, but I have learned to enjoy my own company and since being disabled found many new and exciting things to do in life.

My life in many ways has more meaning now than it has ever done - there is always someone who needs a little kindness, and always someone much worse off than I am.
In my youth I was an abused and very negative person who suffered with depression from childhood, so the peace and joy I have found in my later years is a great blessing.

I love your blogs, all of them. I am sorry that Audrey felt this way and hope she always found someone who needed her.

I remember my father saying one of the most difficult challenges to face after my mother's death was not having someone to share life's experiences with. He sought out new friends and new experiences and lived the next 13 years of his life with meaning.

I'm with Bonnie on this, you are the most important person for whom you can make a cup of tea! But, there is always someone who needs a cup of tea, somewhere . emoticon emoticon
