We have certainly had some hot weather this summer. The humidity is very bad. I am having a hard time getting out to do some walking. I forget to put on sunscreen when I go shopping and I have gotten some sunburn just while waiting for a bus.
I have been busy eve though our church programs are stopped for the summer. My son called e-mailed me a few weeks ago and told me that his girlfriend had gotten a job in Alberta with Shaw Cable, and he was going to move there with her. That was a surprise to me. I hadn't spoken to my son for over a year as he has an alcohol addiction, and I had to ask him to leave, as I couldn't deal with him any more. A couple of months ago he started e-mailing me and letting me know he was okay. I e-mailed him back and asked him if we could meet for coffee before he left for Calgary. He agreed, and then he again surprised me by telling me that he and his girlfriend were going to come to church with me. They picked me up and gave me a ride to church. Afterwards we went to Tim Horton's for coffee and lunch and spent some time visiting. He has a very nice girlfriend. I am happy for him. They left for Calgary last Sunday. They did say they would like me to come to Calgary and visit.
My youngest son dropped by the other night and he told me he is going to be writing his test to get his welding papers. Once he gets his papers he will immediately be making $10.00 more an hour than he already is. He told me he too is thinking of going to Alberta for a while to make some money. The wages are very good there, but the cost of living is quite high. He says he has quite a few friends around Alberta, so he wouldn't have a problem finding a place to stay. There are a lot of changes going on.
I had a bit of a scare today when I went to Safeway. After I crossed the street at the light I heard horns and squealing tires. I turned to see a car coming down the street at highway speeds weaving in and out of traffic and just missing running into several cars. He squeezed between two cars waiting at the red light, scraping one car down the side as he did so. He went through the red light and kept right on going weaving all over the road. The police were coming right behind him, but they stopped when he saw how he was driving. They radioed ahead to other police to check for him and they stopped to deal with the driver whose car had been damaged. As I stood there and thought about this, I realized that had I crossed that street a minute later, I could have been in the middle of the street as he went by. God was watching out for me again. I do hope the police managed to catch up with the driver and get him off the road before anyone gets hurt. Well, that's my excitement for the day.
