First Day in Minneapolis

Friday, July 19, 2013

I had such a blast yesterday! We were at the Mall from basically 3pm to 930pm and we walked around most of that time. I'd say at least 4 hours worth. They had all kinds of cute and fun little shops (including a Christmas store). But today, my feet and upper thighs want me to die a horrible, horrible death. I think the plan for today is to take it a little easier and we are going to the aquarium and a movie and then back to the hotel for some r & r. There's also a casino in the area that we may go to but I know hubby isn't a fan so who knows.

Inside the mall is also a Lego store which was AMAZING. and a peeps store which was kind of cool. I've put up some new pictures on my page so you can see some of the cool stuff in the Mall.

One of my favorite restaurants ever is in the Uptown part of Minneapolis. It is called Chino Latino and it is just like it sounds. Chinese and Latin food mixed together into awesomeness. Mmmm. I wish I was up there to go to it. Soooo good!

A wonderful place to walk in Minneapolis is around the river from the Hennepin Ave Bridge to the Arch Bridge. Or you can walk through Mill Creek Park on the bike/walk trail there. They are in the same area. It's just off Washington Avenue by the MetroDome or whatever it is called now. Your hotel or GPS can give you directions. Also, if you are splurging on food there are two excellent restaurants I would recommend. The first is a Thai restaurant called Mai Village. It is in St. Paul on University Avenue. The other is Al Vento, an outstanding Italian restaurant that is not outrageously expensive. You can ride the rapid to a stop near it and walk the rest of the way. It's just a little neighborhood type place just behind the airport. Both of these are highlighted in the Minneapolis Magazine that is in your hotel room. I've been to both and love them.

The Mall of America is my unofficial fitness club that I use when the weather doesn't permit my preferred outdoor walking. Only trouble is: 20 miles away, 30 min by car, 75 min by transit. I often do the latter despite the time so I can catch up on my weight loss podcasts. Welcome to Minnesota!
