Progress and Dreams

Friday, July 19, 2013

Continuing to make progress. Weight at 128.8 this morn, just 2.8 over happy weight! On track with half marathon training program. Group run tomorrow morning. Challenge will be getting to sleep early enough tonight to get a good night's sleep. We'll see. (Hubby is definitely the owl - likes to go to bed much later, so it is hard for me to get to sleep early enough on a regular schedule. Trip out west, 2 hours earlier, didn't help either, but I'm trying.)

Gwen will be here soon and this afternoon we'll go see Natalie's gymnastic performance. I have both kids tomorrow afternoon and all day Sunday; take Natalie to camp and keep Gwen on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and both kids the following Sunday. Wednesday I work in the office. Tuesday I'm going to a Life Writing Workshop. I'm also really hoping to get a lot of housework done. Busy week anticipated!

I've had flirting thoughts about the National Senior Games. My best 5K time of 27:33 would qualify for nationals, assuming I finished in the top 4 in a qualifying race. The Florida state games are in Lee County, same county as Fort Myers, in December. But the 2014 national games are in Oregon and the 2015 games are in Minneapolis. One side of me just thinks it would be really cool to get to go and participate, even if I came in at the back of the pack. I probably will be more practical, but just fun to think about it. Sometimes I'm competitive and enjoy going head to head; other times I kind of get stressed out. Spending money on a family vacation that everyone enjoys is decidedly more practical. Dream on!

I think having dreams (and doing some of them), is healthy! Dreams are often what motivates us to achieve. Keep those dreams, Marsha, because one day soon you will be living some of them!

    To paraphrase Mark Twain

You will regret more the things you did not try than those that you did.

Go for it

As for the National Games...I know you could do it...and it is probably a once in a life dream you could make happen but I understand your thinking! Either way, I say GO!

Marsha, I wish I could tell you to do what's "practical" But I won't. You only live once. I think Barb has a great thought though. It even tempts me to go back to D's hometown and give it what for! You do have to learn 3 words...
GO BIG RED!

I'll be thinking of you while I do the state games here. It's HOT out there, and I'm skipping the opening ceremonies in favor of early bedtime. It's supposed to cool down to 69 overnight, but I'm betting that lake is going to be bathtub warm again. Report to follow...

and keep on dreaming! emoticon

Yay you! You are amazing: you just dig your heels in and DO it.

And as for the dreams . . . gotta say, I think you're worth the investment in time and money. (A bit of understatement there). You do a great deal for your family and are more than entitled to do some stuff just for you, yes you are!!

Without dreams, there is nothing to look forward to. In our last days we only regret what we didn't do. You are one busy lady! Enjoy.

Good progress on the weight. I knew you would get it together.
I love to read about you and all that you have accomplished with the running. It's so cool. Maybe you can find a way to combine the race with family vacation. Oregon is a pretty state with lots to see.
Enjoy the rest of your week end.

You are doing well in spite of all your commitments! Way to work it!
Busy week indeed. That will be exciting to see Natalie's gymnastics performance. Of all the Olympic sports, I always enjoyed gymnastics the most. Combining power and grace, its just a thrill to watch! How wonderful she has taking an interest in it!
I think its time you thought of yourself for once. I can see you in these Senior Games, having the time of your life, enjoying competing with your fellow runners. After all the effort you are putting in to become the best runner you can be, I think it would be a shame for it to go to waste. I certainly don't think you would have to worry about coming in last, no sir, not you!
Go for it!!!

You are doing emoticon Sometimes we have to throw practical out the window and just GO FOR IT!

We are taking a "second" trip this summer. My daughters and mom already had a girls trip to Colorado and now it's the family vacation. We aren't going crazy with the spending, but are just realizing that our family is growing up too fast. We are determined to spend time together before they all start moving out. (The oldest move into her dorm on August 6th.)

We can worry about paying it off later. Like I said we aren't going crazy, but it will make us "tighten the belt" later.

Have fun and keep at it!

It's fun to dream as long as we can make up the fun in real life, right? Your running time is pretty stellar, Marsha!

"Spending money on a family vacation that everyone enjoys is definitely more practical." Practical maybe but this is YOUR dream--the family will have their own. I say this as a very involved grandma who turns down vacations with the kids in Disney so I can wander around Ireland. Scotland and England. I did the Disney thing when dd was young and now she and her dh can do it with their children. But now is the time for MY dreams. I say this will all understanding Marsha. At our age, though, do have another think about it?
