I love the smell of the typical mall food court. Oh, does it ever smell good. It makes me want to eat there so bad. And in the past, I normally forked over money and bought a favourite, only to find the food to be meh and to be slightly unsatisfied by the end of the meal.
Dose that sound familiar to you?
I've dubbed this the Food Court Fakeout.
Basically, the food court smells so amazing and all the food smells oh so very good and you want to eat the amazing smelling food. Only thing is, the food that you smell doesn't exist. You will not find a single dish anywhere in that food court that smells like what your brain is now craving. That is b/c that smell is made up of ALL the cooking food. You are craving the sum of all the food choices, not a single food.
I find it's the same when you walk past a restaurant. Something smells amazing and you decide to go in there. Only to find there is nothing that quite lives up to the heavenly smell you experienced before entering.
Now that I've given this a name and I understand the concept, I find that it's much easier to say no to the food court. I know I won't find something that matches what my brain is now craving. I can shrug it off, hold my head high and say No. And I'm happy about that :)
