I know, I've been away a long time. A lot has been going on, both personally, at work, and with my training. There are only 4 more weeks until the USA Triathlon National Championships, and I'm feeling very anxious. My last competitive Sprint distance would not have qualified; then again, it was ridiculously hot! I was 8 mins slower than predicted on the swim; 10 mins slower on the bike; mostly walked the run, plus stopped several times to ice down. T1 took 7 mins, 3 of which were on the long path from the swim finish to transition area, and the rest struggling with my bike gloves and trying to get out of transition! T2 only took 2 mins, so, on track. That put me at 40 mins slower than predicted. All in all, I still came in the top 44% (need 33%), so, not great, but was alright.
Trained for the swim - check (usually do 1500-2500m at every swim workout)
Trained for the bike - check (legs can handle 24-26 miles, no problem)
Trained for the run - check (what's a 10K to a marathoner, even if I have to walk it)
Wetsuit ready - maybe! Haven't had much of a chance to get it out to an open water swim, lately, between the heat and rain.
Travel arrangements made - check (going by train, will be an adventure)
Bike transport arranged - check, what a relief to have a service handling that
Tri bag checklist - check, and already half-packed (it's going with my bike)
Bike kit checked and packed - check
Paperwork and reservations printed - check
Yeesh - there's a lot to pack for a Tri!
So, what's it like around the Henry Maier Festival Park on Lake Michigan? What's that area of Milwaukee like? Hilly? Flat? Weather in August? How's the water temp?
Am I nervous? You bet!!!
