Making It Fun!

I am looking for ways to keep exercise from being mundane. I know me and I am going to have to mix things up and look for fun ways to get my exercise in. One thing I do is walk on the treadmill, watching television as I exercise. I also go to yard/garage sales....yes, I do drive from one to another....but I drive a Sequoia and literally have to climb into it...so, I am in and out of the vehicle, walking up and down the street to go to and from the sale, and of course moving around as I look. I thoroughly enjoy this and often go with a friend, or even a group of friends. We have had as many as 10 at a time in three vehicles. It might not sound like much, but it is good exercise.

My newest toy...that I treated myself to today...is a stability ball. It is rated for up to 300 pounds/2000 static pounds. I do worry that I will pop the thing, but it looks like a good work out and it looks fun, so I am going to give it a try. SparkPeople has some great videos using the stability ball and I read somewhere that you burn 100 calories an hour just sitting on one...so, I might have found a new seat for myself, though I will not entirely give up my comfy recliner. emoticon emoticon emoticon

If you hear a loud pop and the sound of someone hitting the floor, you will know it is just me and my stability ball! emoticon

I think that I would love one of those Hippity-Hop type balls to bounce on....they are supposed to be GREAT exercise, and even thought about getting one, but just the mental image of me and my bulk bouncing down the sidewalk in the park, is quite hysterical. I know that I would look totally ridiculous...still, I had one as a kid and it was a LOT of fun!

I also bought myself a new set of 3-pound dumbbells for workouts. I used to have a pair, and loved using them, but I cannot find them since the house fire, so they are either packed in one of the boxes I have not gone through yet, or they are history.

I am determined.....no, I am committed....to succeeding this time around. I want to lose this weight, be more active, and be healthier but I want to have fun along the way. Who knows, I just might get myself one of those hop balls to play...exercise...on one of these days. emoticon

    Excellent approach. If it's not fun, it ain't going to last. That's my game theory with exercises. Variety is very important. It's like having an arsenal of weapons. Why going into to a war with just one weapon? That doesn't make any sense. The treadmill thing is superb. Check out Dr. Levine on Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) on the web. The idea is to turn non-exercise activity into your favor. For example, slow down the treadmill to non-exercise level (1 MPH) and use that for hours like these women do. Enjoy the video:

    Oh my....I weigh 288 pounds....that would be a large hula hoop! I loved those things when I was a kid, but never could keep one at my waist! :)

I will go check it out though!
