You know when you want to give up on all of the dieting, exercising, healthy life styling? Don't EVER do it. You never know when that special spark is going to hit and you find you way.
For me, I had given up. I had resigned myself to a life in bed. 1 friend in the area who would visit, a husband who had basically been turned into a care giver, and television is not the life you want to lead. Trust me. I needed help with everything.
It was not just because I weighed 460 pounds (am down to 218 with no weight loss surgery, so it can be done.). I have many disabilities that were exacerbated by my weight. My spine is degenerative, powdery vertebrae, slipped disks, I need knee replacements, have fibromyalgia and arthritis. I also have pcos and low thyroid with diabetes. I could go on, but I won't.
For decades I thought that I could not lose weight, especially because I'm disabled. What I was doing was focusing on CAN'T. My friend Hoosiergirlindy suggested that I start looking at thing from the standpoint of "What can I do?"
Do chair and bed exercise
Fire my doctor and get one who cared
Read and research
Sign up for SparkPeople
Get an arm bike
My can't list was hideously longer. A few items from it:
I can't walk
I can't fit in a swimsuit for water therapy
I can't drive
I can't go to Jenny Craig any more because I can't leave the house without a care taker
I can't bend
I can't shower or have proper hygiene without a care taker
Why share those personal things with you? So that you will see what unhealthy choices can do. The choices start innocently with "Will you get me this or that?"
They escalate. Why? Once you reach a certain weight or if you have chronic pain or disabilities, you want to avoid the pain of moving. It really boils down to exhaustion and pain avoidance . When you do this, it is giving away the keys to your freedom and makes you a burden to your care takers.
So Never Ever Give Up. It was a halfhearted attempt that took for me. I had no idea when I started my first Spark Streak that that was the beginning of a new life. You never do know, so keep trying.
