I have been looking for years and no one ever suggested a source in my county of reasonably priced rides for people who live far from bus transportation. It always has been a problem getting rides to and from eye doctor appointments and for surgeries since my husband cannot drive any more. Every time I have asked, apparently I have asked the wrong people.
If you live in Minnesota, there a state and county assisted service called Dial A Ride and amazingly the criteria for qualifying is that you live 1/2 mile from public access to buses in the summer and 1/4 mile in the winter. There are no age restrictions and no income guidelines and now when I get my eye dilations and/or eye injections for wet macular degeneration I won't have to take a cab both ways which is $15 each way plus a tip...I will be able to go for $2.25 each way and can schedule one week ahead. Oh, happy day! I will share this information with anyone I know who may need this service or knows someone who does.
P.S. I live over a mile from the nearest bus stop and there is no service outside of mornings and evenings, so using the bus even if I could walk that far is impossible for an appointment at 1:00 p.m.
