Wise choices and bad news

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Another early a.m... had my "American breakfast"..... white cottage cheese, blueberries and red strawberries... just a way to think of my friends.... thanks to everyone for your kind and encouraging comment.s... so nice to have friends who care.

Buddy and I did a 1 lap walk (about 40 min) this a.m, cuz and we were taking MIL to town and I forgot my sunscreen (haven't been burned once this summer, and I am out every day.... being blonde, that doesn't usually happen)

Read some more Michael Palmer. Bought lots of wool at Value Village today.... had lots of chunky that I use for my winter sweater knitting...not usually that lucky.

Dh and his mom went out for lunch, me, I brought a can of kippers, and wasa and yogurt for mine... Dh got me an iced cap - that may have been the biggest calorie thing I had all day. Then for supper, we got home again after 6:30, we picked up chicken wings (only 4) and I had a can of yellow beans, a corn on the cob and a tomato for supper.... I realized tonite that I am probably way under my calories still for the day (again) and had an open faced ham and cheese sandwich with strawberries..Got a new bread... flax and quinoa.... very light, which surprised me, but 130 cal per slice, thus the openfaced... Proud of myself,, wasn't planned, but wise choices were made!!! I am still not having cravings.
The problem is my BS has gone up right away, wish it was just the heat, Terri, but probably not.... tis might indicate that I am very sensitive to carbs....will have to monitor and watch more closely.

Bad news - BIL got word from his dr. today - the cancer has spread to his muscles.... they left this a.m. to go to my mom's, and they got the news on the way.. prayers please.

Saying prayers for you and your family. I had a half off coupon for Value World that I used yesterday - two pairs of shorts, a pair of pants and two shirts for $5. I forgot to go back to look at the books and I never thought to look to see if they had yarn. I've got some more half off coupons that I will use when I get more money.

LILA so sorry for the bad news just when there was some really good things happening for you.

Excess carbs are every Diabetics worst enemy. However Carbs are the food of the brain, it runs on carbs, my Gran was so wrong she always told us Fish was the food of the brain.

You can look for the Glycemic Index on Spark search or Google, it ranks the food choices. It helped me to understand carbs.I feel sure it was put together in Canada but not certain. It is really helpful.
I have always used my diabetic tracker and I stay below calories, not a lot. I like to be below with carbs. That is hard.
I often am low on fats and as for protein I do not mind going over a little.
My last A1c was 5.5.
You can get a lot of information in the conditions pages in Community.
You and your health are worth learning this. Diabetes never goes away , it can be controlled with the right foods and exercise. Well done you are doing so much better these days. Pat in Maine. emoticon
