I was able to get a volkswalk in today. Its not that I haven't been walking in fact I have been out hiking a couple days a week.
But today between appointments I drove out to Monroe, WA to take in Interlaken Trailblazer's new year round walk.
As a child, Monroe was that quaint little town on HWY 2 on the way to Grandpa's country home. As a teen it was that commercial mess you had to go through when the road was put to bypass town. Today I was please to see a new side of Monroe.
The walk started at the local YMCA. Leaving the start the walker gets glimpses of Lake Tye, a nice area for swimming, walking, ruining and human powered boats. It was a nice day so there were a lot of people enjoying the park and the water.
The route then follows a series of trails through neighborhoods. A great network of trails connecting parks and commercial areas with homes.
there are many additional loops to increase the distance on this walk. One takes in the old downtown. I could only do the 10k today.
at 8-9K the route is along the edge of town and one sees cows and horses..the country Monroe used to be. The route ends with a loop around Lake Tye.
A very nice walk.
