Confession, where I am now

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

Last Friday after weighing in at 218.2, I went to volunteer, and got another low blood sugar. I had a fiber bar, and that got my cravings going. I ordered and ate a small pizza, and two 20 oz wild cherry Pepsi's, and when my brother came home, I had a footlong Italian sub, and a liter of Pepsi from 7-11 at 2 a.m. The next morning I was 228.0, a gain of 9.8 lbs.

I switched up my diet to add in more vegetables, and eat a higher carb level, and it seems to be working okay since Saturday. I am close to 100 grams of carbs a day, but my fiber is around the 25 gram mark now. My hope is that I don't get any low blood sugars, or feel like cheating, so even if I lose slower, I lose more steadily. As of right now, I am 221.2 which is 3 lbs above my last weigh in with 3 days to go. I will be happy breaking even this week. Yesterday I lost .8 lbs.

Today I already did a 1 hour walk, without any pain in my back, and started laundry. I had 4 eggs, 2 Tbsp. butter, a cup of mushrooms ( omelette ), and a Granny Smith apple for breakfast. My lunch and dinner is 5.6 ozs of chicken breast cooked in 1.5 Tbsp. of olive oil, plus 1/2 a can of NS peas, and 1/2 a can of NS tomatoes each. I have replaced my fiber bar with a can of NS green beans, an entire can. I know fresh is better, but I am on a set income, and can't afford that, or organic meat.

Total is 13-14 servings of fruit and vegetables. Today I am at 100 grams of carbs, but 26 is fiber, so 74 Net. I have never moved past 50 net carbs on Atkins, even though I have a low resistance to weight loss. I think the fast weight loss is what was causing me to have back pain, and low blood sugars. I am also glad that I have been able to double my walking. I did 10 laps around my apt complex in 56 minutes, but I counted it as an hour. The cats have to wonder why I keep walking past. They just lie in the windows with sleepy eyes.

I have tried a few times to up carbs, but usually have eaten something that caused me problems, either cravings, or shortness of breath, and had me scurrying back to very low carb to recover. This time, it just feels right. I have more energy, and still no cravings. I have not felt this good in 5-6 months, even when I have lost well. This time I just doubled my vegetables, and I am still losing quite well. We'll see on Friday how well.

Today I have to do laundry, clean my kitchen, including stove, cook my meals, go to library, do a workout. I was going to go to a movie for my brother's birthday, but I am broke, and it is probably not a great idea to go where candy and pop are thrown in your face. If he wants to go though, I will just have to use my debit card, and hope we make enough to pay the bills.

Part of the reason why I am broke, is the car. I spent $2000 over the past few months, and the front end crunches, and rattles. My brother actually drives it for pizza delivery. I can barely stand a trip to the library. They told us it is structurally sound, but I don't know. Work is slow, and my brother is not making a lot of money, and keeps getting sent home early. The carb payment is $400 a month, and I owe $3000 more, so I just need to make it one more year, and I am okay. It is a source of great stress though. I would need $1500 for a new front end, but I have $400 between me and not paying bills. Plus if the car breaks down, my brother is unemployed, and I couldn't even buy food, or go to the doctor's. I try not to worry, but it is stressful. He will get about $800 from his Pell grant after he pays for books, and tuition, and we can use that for car repairs, but that isn't until September, and he wants to use it for summer classes. Hopefully I can pay off the car early with tax returns, and afford his summer classes if he uses this money to fix the car. Then I got my car insurance, and it went from $800 to $1350 per six months. I now have to come up with $350 for 4 months for his insurance.

I'm treating it like after a surgery, when I am in pain. Things will eventually get better. I will think of the future, and fake it till I make it. In 2 months we will get the Pell grant money. In 4 months, we will stop having to pay $350 a month to AAA, and the pizzeria will be busier. In 8-10 months, I will pay off the car, and be able to get PLPD ( no fault ).

I saved the best part for those who read this far. This car that is currently costing me $750 a month... well Saturday when my brother came home, he told me the door handle fell The car is 5 years old. He has to open the car from the passenger side. I am considering just not paying the insurance or car payment for 3 months, and buying a used car, but I feel like I should pay my bills.

Well, I am off to finish laundry, and do a workout. Hope everyone is having a great week. If not, just wait, things change.

Man that car sounds like it needs to be ditched for something else! It's only 5 years old and the handle fell off too!? Lol. Wow. I HATE car trouble. Well everyone hates car trouble, but I've been through it in so many various ways w/ different cars that I always feel bad for anyone having car issues. It is VERY stressful. So I totally understand how you feel. I hope it gets better sooner than later. And as far as your eating goes, you got back on track and that's what matters in the end. And if you're feeling better, that is good! So try not to stress and keep looking at the positive. :)

You're brave to confess what you ate on a bad day. I've never done that, and I've had some wildly bad days in the last few weeks. I'm glad you found a carb level that just feels right. If it feels right and you're not in pain or having hypoglycemic moments and you can still lose weight, you're doing well.

And financial stress with a POS car is even worse than weight-loss stress. I feel for ya. You have a good outlook on life, hope you can always hold on to it.

Sorry about your car! I can sympathize. I had a Ford Focus that gave me problems even when it was under warranty (power steering pump, electric window motors), then once it was out of warranty, a cascade of things went wrong - water pump, alternator, air compressor for the air conditioning, and finally the computer in the car went out. That doesn't even include the tires that the car went through. I'm glad that car is gone!

Anyway, good for you for getting back on track, and I hope that your diet adjustment works out for you!

I'm sorry about that car giving you fits. I am also in an older car. I drive the same car Dad bought for me when I was 19 years old, I'm 35. She needs struts, a new air conditioner, a new radio, and a steering wheel cover. I live with my folks because otherwise I would be homeless. I also just put on some weight, I need to follow your example and return to my low carb roots. I don't see anything really wrong with NS canned green beans. Those are just fine.

I know you can do this weightloss thing. Its always down to a mental game and preparation. I try to always carry some cheese in my bag to avoid eating the wrong thing. I don't know if you can have that or if its too expensive.
