Have you ever been on a road trip and made a detour to an interesting place on the way? I hate long car rides. As a kid, I dreaded the vacations that included a long car ride, and was excited for any detour in the journey - be it a visit to the World's Largest Ball of String, a stop at McDonalds or, best yet, an overnight stay at a hotel with a pool!! All to soon it was time to get trapped in the back seat, fighting with my sister over back seat territory, as we headed back on course to the vacation destination. I am finding myself having a fine time at the rest area on the way to my weight loss goal, and am fighting with myself to get back on the highway that leads to my weight loss destination.
The reason for this is twofold: One - I feel good! My clothes are smaller, I'm less self conscious, and people have noticed the changes. Two - it is summertime! It seems that everyone I hang around has zero concern for the number of calories in the taco dip, BBQ, or booze. The problem is that the appeal of the rest area is fading. The scale is inching up, and the land of the 180's doesn't seem so great all of a sudden. Maybe the problem is that I have lost sight of my goal destination? Where is it I am headed?
Goal destination: 150
Next mini goal: the 170's
Next cardio fitness goal: 10K in October without having to walk (I first have to revisit the goal of trying to run a 5K without walking!!)
Strength fitness goal: develop, and stick with a solid strength routine. It remains an area I have yet to conquer. I feel like I get a better workout following a video tape, but I don't want to be tied to having to do a tape. I have some research to do in this area. My boss, who is a fan of Les Mills pump classes at the gym, recently found that there are some full classes available on YouTube - intrigued!
