So, as many of you know, who have been reading my blogs lately, going on one of the major hikes at our favorite vacation spot, has been a goal of mine for quite a while. It is one, however, that I never would have even thought possible before SparkPeople.
This past Saturday, I embarked on one of the greatest adventures of my life! I attempted the hike to Middle Fork Lake! I had always enjoyed looking at others' beautiful pictures, but knew that it had to be so much better in person. I made the decision last year that next time we went, I would see that lake!
As I began that trail at the bottom of the mountain, I had no idea just how difficult it would be. The hike was 4 miles roundtrip of steep switchbacks. The hike itself took me nearly 4 hours to complete with a 1 hour break at the top. My legs were throbbing. My lungs were fighting for oxygen. But, with encouragement from DS, I kept pushing through! I found out what I was capable of. Gone was the old Dachelle who struggled just to get out of her chair. In her place, I found this strong adventurous woman, who was not afraid to try anything! What a shocker! I am still trying to discover who exactly this new Dachelle is. All the way up, I kept thinking, "I can't believe I am actually doing this!" Now, I can't wait for next year to try even more challenging hikes with even more breathtaking views!
Are you ready? Let's go on a mountain hike!
This was the beginning of the trailhead.
Off we go!
We found lots of little waterfalls along the way...
...and lots of interesting places to take breaks too - lol!
This was one of the final switchbacks. DS kept saying, "I think this is the last one. It's just over that hill." This was after about the 4th time of him saying this, and I was beginning to believe this lake was some kind of mythical mountain tale!
Here is what met my eyes over that last hill! Do you think it was worth it?
Taking it all in...
Resting my feet by the water, while the kids were out exploring!
This one is not the most beautiful one of me, but I think my smile says it all!!!
Ok, had to include this one because it cracks me up! DS photobombing me! He was probably thinking, "Really, Mom??? Another picture???" LOL!!!!!
Well, y'all, thanks for sharing this amazing journey with me! I still have far to go, but I have now seen a glimpse of where all this will lead me, so I am ready and excited to keep going with this journey! I'll leave you with 2 contrasting images that I think reflect how far I have really come.
This girl is ready to conquer those mountains!
