First day at the gym!

Well, I went to Planet Fitness for the first time! I was really nervous and scared about going but it wasn't bad at all. I noticed people from all different sizes and it was just really nice. I didn't feel out of place or anything. My best friend Becki was really happy with it too and it was great seeing her feeling good about herself. =) She was even more nervous than me going in because in the parking lot her hands were shaking. lol She said the nerves just hit her all at once when we got there because she was excited all day. But she calmed down once we got inside, took the tour and met some of the staff. Becki didn't want the free tshirt they gave her so she gave it to me instead. I needed a new workout shirt so scoooore! Lol.

The first thing we did was get onto the treadmills. I forgot my earbuds so didn't have music or the television to watch so we just talked until the warm up was over. I decided to do week one of c25k since I memorized the times and didn't need the app for prompts. I am proud of myself that I actually jogged in public. I did a mile and a half. Becki did a mile and I am super proud of her because the last time we went walking together she gave up after a half mile. While we were walking someone dropped weights across the gym and made the lunk alarm go off. Haha. I was amused because I had heard about it but wasn't sure if I'd ever see it in person.

We had a planned in the car while driving there for 30 mins of cardio and 30 mins of strength training, so after the treadmill we went over to this area of the gym they have set up for circuit training. It reminded me of Curves with how you switch stations every time the light turns from green to red. I liked it though! It was a real workout. I want to venture over to the free weights sometime. It was all men over there and I had to laugh a little on the inside because I always read how people call it the boys club. Lifting is a goal of mine tho.

After the circuit training we went to ride the bikes for ten minutes to cool down. I came home, stretched out, had my protein shake and am ready to do it all again tomorrow night. We're gunna go at least three times a week. We went at 8:30pm to beat the peak hours.

So yeah, I am happy! Just wanted to share. =) Hope you guys are doing great!

It's wonderful you were able to encourage your friend through her nervousness. Keep encouraging each other and someday you'll be the regulars encouraging the newbies!

    Congrats on your Gym Adventure! What in the heck is a Lunk Alarm? Never heard of it, LOL!

I hope you have lots more trips to the gym and go on and grab you some free weights, they are very empowering.

    emoticon congrats on your first trip to the gym! Don't let the boys scare you away from the free weights, its NOT an exclusive "no girls allowed" club. Free weights are better for working your muscles than machines (in my humble opinion, anyway). The biggest thing about free weights is the proper form, so hire a trainer if you can afford it to show you the ropes, ask the staff, or pick up some lifting magazines and books. The gym is wonderful, so... have fun, and enjoy getting more fit! emoticon
