List of Non-Scale Movtivators to Track

Monday, July 15, 2013

I am not using the scale as my only motivation to lose weight. At least for now I am only going to weigh myself once a month. As we all know, a month can be a long time to wait for the positive reinforcement of hard data results, so I came up with an idea to help - I have now added tracking body measurements once a month as well. So I don't have to wait an entire month to see any results, I am going to take my measurements on the 7th of each month and weigh in on the 21st of every month - this will give me numerical results approximately every two weeks.

In addition to this change, I want to make a list of non-scale motivators (big & small) so I can celebrate and acknowledge the many victories along the way. I am going to keep this as an ongoing list and will add to it as I come up with more things. I will also put dates by the items when they are achieved. Another great side benefit doing this, is my focus will be continuously on the positive outcomes of getting healthy and losing weight. What's on your list?

Changes I am very much looking forward to:

- Walking without thighs rubbing together

- Shopping in a store that isn't for plus-sized women

- Going up a flight of stairs without getting out-of-breath

- Sitting in a movie theater seat comfortably and use both armrests - 7/3/13

- Sitting on the floor and know that I can easily get up again

- Going anywhere and not worry about if the chairs have arms and I will fit

- Comfortably bending over and tie my shoes

- Waking up in the morning and feeling energetic - 7/2013

- Having my bath towel fit the entire way around me

- Wearing shorts without feeling self-conscious

- Fitting in and riding an amusement park ride without embarrassment

- Not being the largest person in the room - almost always!

- Weighing less than my husband

- Not need to constantly adjust my underwear - 6/2013

- Wearing anything I want that is in my closet

- Seeing my collar bone

- No need for a seat belt extender on an airplane

- Seat belt in car more comfortable - 6/2013

- Seeing space on either side of me in a chair or between my knees

- Extra space in my office chair

- Crossing my legs

- Doing all yoga poses

- Wearing a belt

- No back pain

- No swelling in ankles everyday - 7/2013

My list (in my head) is about the exact same as yours! I've always been the type to be a slave to the scale, but I have decided to weigh myself only once every two weeks instead of every day. At first it was hard, but I've gotten used to it. Now I can focus on other accomplishments like healthy eating, drinking my water, and exercising, instead of obsessing about the number on the scale.

Great list! I like having other goals besides the scale-I HATE SCALES! I just posted a message about not weighing myself except my once a year physical to get thoughts on this. The scale is demotivating for me, but I love it when my pants are looser, my legs/arms/etc. feel tighter, I see an hourglass shape appearing…..Like the measurement idea! Best of luck and thanks for sharing!
