Jax's 2nd Birthday party! very NON Paleo LOL

Monday, July 15, 2013

Yesterday we had Jax's 2nd birthday party. We invited mainly family members over and a close friend's family with their kids and we had a nice afternoon. It was Minon themed!

My husband and my older son helping Jax open his presents:

A blurry picture of Jax on his new Sit N' Spin and our dog, Elvis (who is not evil or possessed, BTW):

I ate a very large amount of NON-Paleo items yesterday and my tummy is paying the price today...ugh. And I bought/made entirely TOO MUCH food (as usual) so I brought in a few things to share/give-away at work (I swear people will eat anything if it is free) today and will probably bring in more tomorrow. On a daily basis, I'm doing better on the eating front, but I still can't seem to separate "celebrating" from "eating" so that is definitely something I need to work on. It is hard when basically none of the other guests are into healthy eating, and certainly not interested in anything Paleo. I struggle to figure out what to serve, then end up serving the typical junk (which I still find yummy, but my system doesn't tolerate it well at all), I eat it all, and then end up paying the price. Does anyone else struggle with this? If I have people over, I want to provide them things they will like. And I did have some healthier (ish) options - including a kale salad and a fruit salad (to go with the pizza! LOL) - which I ate, but were barely touched by others, so it isn't like serving only super duper "healthy" food will go over well, yet I don't have the self control to stay away from the "bad" stuff if I have it around.

All of this is not helped by the fact that I LOVE to bake (the cupcakes were FUN!) but again, not too Paleo, or healthy in any which way. AAAAHHHH! Ok, so I should eat one, enjoy it and move on, right? Um.............yeah ok. Easier said than done! (Baked goods in particular are my weakness - not good for a baker trying to lose weight!)

I really don't mean to complain, but entertaining is challenging to my weight loss. I guess for now the only thing I can do is to get back on track. If this migraine would just go away (yep - fun - another thing I have going on right now), I will be all set!

    Love those cupcakes! Great job!

I stumbled across this blog that has TONS of paleo recipes. I'm not into paleo but thought I'd share so you can maybe get some new recipes that could also possibly appeal to your guests. It's at fedandfit.com and then click on her recipe index.

Well, on the one hand.. big whoop.. you ate non-paleo.. and it looks like you had a terrific time!!

On the other hand, if it bothers you really.. there are ways around it.. I bought Paleo salad and dessert to the 4th of July party and my stuff was GONE before anyone elses.. and tomorrow we're having a birthday party and I'm supposed to bring dessert.. so I'm making some fantastic Paleo brownies and no one but me will know the difference! You have to be creative.. and often hunt for the right recipe.. but I've only been Paleo since March and my repertoire is growing and growing.

Regardless, I bet Jax had a great birthday..

Cupcakes are cute! Saw pictures of them all over facebook! (not yours, just as the new thing)

And what I typically do is have a few things I love that are healthier, and then a few things the junk lovers always eat up. That way if my delicious things are left over, at least I know I will eat them!

The migraine I'm sure is from the stress of getting ready for the party and the party itself (yeah - I stress about getting the house totally cleaned, and then my husband worked a 24 hour shift Saturday to Sunday, so I was stressing out about getting everything done/purchased/prepped/decorated/ma
de/baked while also watching both kids by myself, and then there are some tricky family member dynamics thrown in so when they are all added together - I'm a huge stressball!). I can't imagine that eating a bunch of junk helped, but I haven't found my triggers to be food related (except for alcohol).

    The cupcakes are adorable.

Yes - I have the same problem, especially when it comes to 'traditions'. Many in my family are trying to eat better and we are still working on convincing my mother that tradition helped to get us in to this mess. She doesn't get offended any more if my sisters and I don't eat the deserts, but still insists that my boys (20 & 14) still "NEED" brownies or something like that. Or will bake a pie for my DH to send home (because I won't do it).

Anyway. I have found that I need to plan ahead, especially on family event days. I'll 'pack' my lunch, even if the event is at my house. If there is going to be food that would particularly tempted me, I make sure I have something sweet included so that the temptation isn't there.

Are you migraines diet related?

I know what you mean about party food. When I have a big family celebration I try to send home with the guests as much food as possible and then have my hubby take some to work. Some cakes/cookies can be frozen. In the future just make the food half healthy options and half less than optimal options and if a lot of the healthy is left all the better for you to eat later :o)

Love the cupcakes :o) Can't believe Jax is 2 already!
