The best surprise of the day

Sunday, July 14, 2013

I woke up several times last night and it was raining. The chance
of rain went from 10% to 30% and then to 60% in a few short hours.
It was a gentle rain that amounted to 9/10th of an inch. My, does
the air smell fresh. The rain quit at 2 and the sun came out but
it was a gentle heat. We did chores a little earlier and poked
around the edges of the garden. It was nice to see the beans
blooming and know that in a few days there will be more to pick.
I made a double batch of beef stew and some buttermilk
biscuits. We have enough for lunch tomorrow and I froze
about half of the batch to give to DS when he comes home
the next time. It should give him a couple days worth of
lunches. Mom just hasn't let go yet LOL! I know he loves
beef stew.
It is raining again and that should continue through the
night. Any we get now will just keep everything growing.
I warned DS1 that he will need to mow at church this week.
He had 2 weeks off as the grass wasn't growing much. He
seemed okay with the idea of another paycheck. Money talks.
Hope you had a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

We've been having tons of rain here in sunny SW FL also. I do like the rain as long as I don't have to go out and get drenched in it! We put lots of our furniture outside and when it rains have to dash out and move it under the overhang on the building. It's a constant challenge to keep the stuff dry, but it draws attention from the road so you just do the raindrop shuffle. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love surprise rain (except when it comes AFTER I finally decide that things need to be watered!) That happened a week ago Sunday. It was supposed to rain on Sunday and it never did so I finally went out on Sunday night to water. THEN we got 1.5 inches of rain overnight!! (I'm really not complaining; you've heard this from me before, I keep thinking back to where we were a year ago and I appreciate all the things around me that are green and soft. I'll never forget the crunchy grass!)

    Enjoy your day! emoticon

Well timed on the rain, there. All we got was some overcast skies... but it was enough to hopefully make the watering I did on Saturday effective. Have a great Monday!

We could certainly use some rain here. We tend to get quick, heavy downpours on and off, that burn off quickly. Temps are supposed to be in the 40's today. That's well over 90.We have extreme humidity hapening this week with high temps so I am getting my workouts done before 7 am but my streak is still going. Have a great week and keep us updated with your garden. I wish I lived next door to you. emoticon

We are getting rain also-only bad thing is ours is usually accompanied by thunder which scare Abbie. I didn't have to water the "weeds" (what DH calls my flowers) tonight.

I made the recipe for the veggie casserole I sent you-it took longer for it to get done than it said in the recipe AND the potatoes did not get really done good so if I make it again, I would leave it out. I think instead of chopping the onions and putting them in the bottom, I would slice them thinly and put them in the rows with the zucchini and squash and tomato (I used plum).

Sounds like a lovely day. Mom, as long as DS can get home in a day or less, keep on making his favorites......he'll come home to get them! (And to hug his dear mom)
