OBEDIENCE IN GIVING
There are so many verses in the Bible that talk about what God can and wants to give us. He is a giving and loving God. He gives us love, joy, peace and comfort. He gives us a ministry so we can tell others about Him. He wants us to give as well. We can give our time. We can give our talents. We can give what we have. We need to be obedient to Him in giving to others. We should want to give and give generously, especially to the poor and to those who cannot give back to us.
Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us today to recognize where we need to give and to more giving. We know there is so much we can do for others and You have given us the ability to give. Show us what we need to do to be more giving. We want to be obedient in giving today. We want to us the skills and abilities You have given us to serve others. We want to allow You to use us, to work through us and give as You want us to give. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God wants to give us love and we should want to give love to others. 1 John 4:16 “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.” (NLT)
God wants to give us joy and we should want to give joy to others. Romans 15:13 “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)
God wants to give us peace and we should want to give peace to others. Matthew 5:9 “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (NLT)
God wants to give us a ministry and we should want to minister to others. 2 Timothy 4:5 “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” (NLT)
God wants to give us comfort and we should want to give comfort to others. 2 Corinthians 1:4 “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” (NLT)
True giving is when we give to those who are not able to give back.
Luke 14:12-14 “Then he turned to his host. ‘When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,’ he said, ‘don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.’” (NLT)
