All this rain forces me to change my exercise routine - and that's a good thing.

Sunday, July 14, 2013

Last week there was so much rain here in Seoul that I could only get out on my bike for two days.

This week promises to be more of the same (sigh).

But looking for the silver lining in the clouds, all this rain has forced me into alternative modes of exercise (mainly a lot of walking). I think it's been pretty good for me to change things up a bit - at least my body thinks so. I've been on a long, long plateau with my weight - but in the last two weeks since I've changed over to do a lot of walking, I've lost 4.5 pounds - a weight loss that I haven't seen in quite a while. I think that part of it is also that I'm being more watchful of what I eat, drinking more water every day, and am doing daily tracking of my nutrition - all activities that I let slip over the last few months.

Having said all that, I am still really itching to get back outside on my bike. But for now, it looks as though I will be stuck using my indoor trainer for the next few days, because when it rains here, its more than an issue of having wet bike paths. When the rains come here, a good portion of the bike paths go under water, making most of the paths impassable.

But for now, the trainer will have to do the trick.

Sorry about all the rain. We had that kind of summer last year, and I did the same as you; walking instead of riding. Unfortunately, I didn't lose weight from that change.
Congratulations on your weight loss!

Good alternative choices. Hope the rains abate soon.

I am in the same situation - but for other reasons. I changed jobs last year - and I am on call every other week/weekend that has 'forced' me to change my routines. I have taken advantage of the gym and I am doing a lot more walking/running. Recently I took up rowing (machine), and I have actually began a little strength training - which is paying off on the scale.
