The move is done

Saturday, July 13, 2013

DS and fiancé came back early this morning and we packed
the trailer with the last load of household goods. It took us
about an hour. Mom pulled her usual, effective routine of
making sure all the cupboards and drawers were checked
for anything that might get left behind, found boxes for the
items and merrily packed and marked each box. I went through
all the rooms one more time. Guess we got everything. A final
hug goodbye before they hit the road. No tears just a little
tightness in the throat. Lots of goodbye waves as they drove
out of town.
Then it was back to the plan for the day. I watered all the
flowerbeds, pulled weeds until the gnats became almost
unbearable. We scouted out a neighbor's apricot trees to
pick what little fruit was there. Enough ripe apricots to make
a single batch of jelly. Yum!
Out to the garden to pick the peas. I think these will be the
last. The beans were damp with the humidity so we left that
for tomorrow. I did pick a few more zucchini and we came
home to take care of other chores. The baby chicks got
moved out to the barn and penned in. They wanted to run
with the big boys but I was afraid they would get trampled.
In a few days, they can join the rest.
Chores as usual and a few other odds and ends. A light
supper of chicken salad sandwiches, sautéed zucchini
and a fresh salad that is super easy
Peel and slice cucumbers. Chop one red, green or yellow
bell pepper. Place in a bowl with one teaspoon of sugar.
Mix and refrigerate. How simple is that! I used our first 4
cucumbers and 3 small yellow banana peppers. So good!
Now we are relaxing and staying in out of the humidity
and the gnats. The neighbor wants to start the fire pit later
but I'll see how the gnats are before I spend too much time
outside. They think I am the main entrée, LOL!
Have a great Sunday and thanks for stopping by. HUGS!

Sounds busy as usual at your place. Your son will stay in touch. He's embarking on a new phase of his life and will probably be wanting advise along the way. Now, what is this about cuke , bell pepper and sugar? Is that a salad in itself or a additive to the chick. salad? Sounds good, either way!
My neighbor has finally finished her ?chicken coop?truck? thingie. Her 6 girls, I think are anxious to move in, they are getting so big! She will build an add-on of chicken wire (&covered with chicken wire) like a yard so they will have more, safe space to move about in! She has constructed this thing with wheels and arranged for movement like a wheelbarrow. (Don't let that part of the description make you think it is small, it is simply moveable so she can move them about her yard and not ruin the lawn.) She is amazing!! She built a small green house last year to keep her banana trees and citrus and misc. alive through the winter! It worked!!! Way good!!!
Don't you just despise gnat?!? And mosquitoes!!! And biting flies!! UGH!! Hope you were able to enjoy the fire pit! Have a super Sunday!! ((HUGS))

Boy I sure know what it's like to watch a son "drive away in the sunset".....not easy to not tear up. I love the cuke and pepper idea...going to try this, perhaps today. Hope you weren't a meal for the gnats last night.....I heard sweets draw the "pests" so...you must be the sweetest of all....Have a great Sunday. Keep smiling. emoticon

Do not feed the gnats! Guess if you weren't so sweet, you wouldn't be such good fodder! Hugs!
