longing for the simple life

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Do you ever think life would be simpler if there wasn't that much technology? Where you actually had to think your way through a problem rather then go to a computer to have it analized or google an answer for things? I do a lot lately. Especially since the people next door who bought my fils land are Amish. I think technology has spoiled us from what used to be. They've built a school in my backyard almost and I find it very interesting to say the least. I think its fantastic because they've refused to "evolve technologically" as we have. They do all their work with big beautiful draft horses no worries about deisel mechanics just where their next feedings going to be really. Don't have to worry about people bothering you on the telephone really, no internet, back to the "basics of life" as 4 Him would sing in their song...yeah life might be a little tougher but that's our roots and where we were before all of this computer nonsense took over our very existance! We've truelly gotten lazy as a society. Its easier for technology to do the work for us rather then work at it with our own 2 hands. She's got 5 beautiful children to help her with things, I've got 3 boys and I'm pulling my hair out! I honestly don't know how they do it. Everything from growing their own food to baking the daily bread needed to survive. I don't think I could do it really, I could if I had to, but I've fallen victim of laziness I suppose along with the rest of society....words to think on really...I don't know how to make my own clothes, put up preserves for the long winter months, anything really in comparisons to what my neighbor does. Well just figured id let you stew on that one for a minute...lend me your be interested in hearing them!

I agree with are a "spoiled" society. We dont' realize how easy we have it till you compare it to what we came from. And honestly I have a relative that has 13 children and they each help out. They are not amish but they do believe in limiting how much technology is invited into there home.
Instead of letting children play with playstations or toys just to argue who has what and whatnot there children have to help and aren't offered the types of ease we are use to. So there's not as much time for arguments of who wants what and who wants to play with what.
Thank you for sharing with us about your neighbors, Makes me appreciate all I have and consider a different way to raise our children.

Hey-- I love your blogs! Once I went on a school field trip with my youngest son to an Amish settlement. It was truly peaceful, and it made me fantasize about living that kind of life.
My three little boys grew up--- but I well remember the "stress" of active boys, each two years apart. They fought and squabbled, but now the brothers are very close. They like each other-- for real! Haha ( If I could turn back the years, I'd exercise more patience.)

Yes, I often think of that myself. I think the best is everyone knows each other and helps each other. Now you hardly know who lives next to you and everyone is afraid to help out because of being sued.

It is sad I think.

It is not just spoiled. Technology has limited our privacy, cut us off socially (person to person) to a degree, and caused some arguments in my house before. I do not like to try to have a conversation with someone who is constantly looking at their phone and texting. How can they really be listening to me?
Technology has helped in many areas such as health care advances and stuff like that, but on the personal level, we are spoiled.
