Not such a hot day running

It's remarkably cool for this time of year. I even felt a breeze. I went to the trail to run and had my minimal footwear on. I have gotten better at moving my legs in a cycle and I have been running 2 miles at a time...walking maybe 1/2 mile as cool down. So, this is all fine and good. But, today I ran in the cool breeze with cloud cover and the threat of rain. It was nice.

Then, I swallowed a bug...pretty sure. I was gagging and trying to get it out, but afraid if I did I would taste it and throw up. I didn't know what to do. Luckily, there was no one there, except for the cars whizzing by.

After 1/4 mile, about the time I start to warm up and sweat like a pig...I felt my calf muscle bunch up like a fist and it hurt pretty bad. I had to stop and limp back to my car. I felt really silly and it hurt. I did the same thing in the past when i was learning how to barefoot run, but I'd gotten so much better with no pain at all....my knees, my calves, everything felt pretty good. So, now I've iced it and elevated it...but I'm bummed.

The good thing is: I'm not all or nothing right now. If I can't run, oh well. It doesn't mean that I am supposed to sit on the couch and eat a bunch of crap...I'm not that upset. It will heal, probably in a week and then I can get back to it slowly...lots of stretching.

I have a feeling that the pulled calf muscle had something to do with using that muscle to ride a razor scooter for 1/2 mile earlier today...that is way harder than it looks. Went with my son...so I looked pretty silly two times at the trail today. Whatev. emoticon

    Better silly than sitting still. It's good that you have a plan which doesn't include sitting and gorging.

    You know some bugs are known to be considered protein and low calorie.. I hope that was what you had for your snack during your run! No, really that is yucky when you swallow a bug, sorry that it happened to you.
    What a story today: running, bugs and the grand finale a razor scooter journey.. aren't you something Ms Marthroid, all that activity and heallty choices are going to make your dreams come true!

    I tried to take your advice about posting short blogs... I guess I just had too much to say today... Sometimes I'm just a rambling blogger, but I do need to remember that
    short blogs might work when I just don't have the time to tell a story. Sometimes I do lean towards all or nothing... Balance isn't always one of my strengths.
