Running on vacation

Saturday, July 13, 2013

My goal this vacation was to keep excersizing to limit the number of lbs I would gain. The last time I went on a vacation I brought 11 lbs back with me. I actually ate well, several salads. However, some of those were at Cracker Barrel and there salads can be loaded with calories.

This time we tried something different. We packed lunches in a cooler for the lunches on the road. We cut up pineapple, had grapes. I weighed made some sandwiches for myself that were less than 300 calories. I had to weigh out the turkey and roast beef because the calories on those packages were not per slice but by weight of food. I could have several more slices of roast beef than turkey since it was cut thinner.

Travelling with a almost 2 year old, we wanted to be able to have a long stop for lunch, so he could get out and walk around on our 1500 mile road trip.

There were two birthday's on this trip. My wife's and my nieces birthday. So there were more calories from those meals. My goal was to excerise in my case run more. We had access to a pool so I could swim more, and my nephew wanted to play basketball so I did that, too.

I didn't really watch what I ate too much. I got up really early to enjoy long runs before most everyone else was awake.

I learned two things from getting up early on these runs. One, I could take some beautiful sunrise pictures over the water. We vacationed on a barrier island.

I also learned alot more on these long runs as I ran up and down the side streets I saw more of the island than I had previously.

I gained only 5 lbs this trip which was much better than the 11 lbs I had gained in the previous trip.

On our way back we hit lots of rain so we did not stop for lunch, but I was able to see a rainbow.

At a rest stop.

Love the pics! Sounds like a wonderful vacation. Glad you were able to enjoy it. I'm sure you'll drop those extra pounds pretty quick now that you're back at home.

Way to go! Sounds like a successful vacation all around.

One of the unexpected benefits I've derived from running is seeing things for the first time: streets or neighborhoods I thought I knew looked very different while running. And distances now take on a different perspective. Surprisingly, 5-10 miles turned out to be closer than I thought it was once I realized I could run it.

Your pics are beautiful! I bet that was a wonderful vacation! Ill guess those 5 lbs were water/salt weight and like RunningGal said, youll lose those pretty quickly. Processed meats do me that way really bad. I hope you all enjoyed the ocean and had a safe, happy vacation! emoticon
