Achilles Tendon Update

Saturday, July 13, 2013

It has been about 2 1/2 weeks since I injured my right Achilles tendon, and after consulting with my chiropractor, decided to give it a rest vs. attempting to accelerate my recovery. Happy to report I can now walk down steps straight (when i first hurt it I was forced to walk sideways). I have done some walking, and my primary cardio exercise has been swimming. I was supposed to run in a 10K next weekend, but had to call that off. Will look to maybe run in a 5K next month, then look for a 10K in September or October.

I also started on an iron regimen two weeks ago as a result of some blood tests that showed I was anemic, so it is will be interesting to see how the iron will impact my recovery and future running. I'm pretty sure it is helping my muscles already, as I clearly felt less fatigued after some strength training on Thursday, and swam a PB of 19:23 in 750M at the pool yesterday (breast stroke).

Disappointed that I can't run right now, but looking forward to a full recovery and back on the trails soon!

Good nutrition and non-painful exercise will move you back to your normal activities, hopefully soon.

Best wishes!

Once you've been bitten by the running bug, it's frustrating to be sidelined. But you're doing the right things, identifying what you need to do to come back and finding other ways to be active.
