As many know, I like to walk the Rivewalk here in Chattanooga. I generally get down to the dam at 5-5:15 AM Mon.- Fri. for a 6 miles walk each morning. On Saturday and Sunday I head out around 6:30am for a walk of anywhere from 7-10 miles. I just let my legs and mind determine that as I am walking.
This past week the walkway has been closed due to the Tennessee River being at flood stage. In some portions the water was maybe as high as 8 feet over the walkway, so needless to say there has been a big dip in the walking this past week. A normal week I get in 42-45 or so miles. This week, 12, and walking in the afternoons is out of the question for me.
I managed 5 on Monday morning when the water was rising and starting to flood areas I had never seen water, then closed the rest of the week.
This morning I was determined to get in some miles and was set to walk a couple of figure eights across the three downtown bridges, so I by-passed the dam entrance to head downtown. I noticed the next entrance to the Riverwalk open(had been roped off all week long), so i shot I and whe walk way was open, so I got in 7 miles!
I don't like walking the neighborhood early in the morning as it riles up the dogs. I don't want to get every dog around barking and disturbing my neighbors, and walking a treadmill or track is out of the question. I can walk 3 hours along that river and enjoy every moment of the walk. Stick me on a darn treadmill and after 10 minuts it's like pulling teeth....I hate it. I like walking in the mornings. It's when I have my energy and it sets my mind for the day.
So....It's good to be back to normal!
