My First 8K

Friday, July 12, 2013

Today I walked my first 8K with my mom. Not long ago, I did my first 5K in just about 1 hr and 2 minutes. We power walked the whole 5 miles and finished in 1 hr and 17 minutes. That may seem like a long time to some, but we averaged almost a 15 min mile across the whole thing. We weren't weenies and ended the walk faster than we started. I like numbers, so comparing the 5K to the 8K I did 2 more miles in about 15 minutes! I am so proud of myself. Mom asked me to go with her at lunch today and I agreed. She needed me there because she recently hurt where her femur and hip connect on her right side and didn't want to jog/run and hurt herself even further. I was her anchor, but we both pushed each other and finished strong. No one else there knew how far I had come, but I must say yet again how proud I am of myself. Someday I sincerely hope to jog/run one of these.

no doubt that you will run one sooner than you imagine. c25k is a nice program to get you going. you will have to be able to get out of your comfort zone in the beginning to accomplish your goal

One of the best NSVs ever! You should be as proud as you are! This is a tremendous achievement. 5 miles and a great time for all the miles covered. Your body is thanking you for your effort, and I'm sure your mom is thanking you for being by her side.

I am SOOOOOOOOO Super, Duper, Uber Proud of you!!!!!!!!!

You had times when you were walking around a 13:45 pace. When I first started jogging, I was far slower than that. lol

But beyond the pride... emoticon emoticon emoticon for going with me on a spur of the moment decision. You know darn well that I would have started jogging. And hurt myself. BAD. You are one emoticon son!!!!!

That is one GLORIOUS NSV! You have every reason to be proud of yourself. I've never tried an 8k, it just sounds a little daunting to me. But then, I don't have an "anchor" to keep me from trying to jog it, either! Keep up the good work.
