Everyone loves a hot dog once in a while. It's a favorite pic nic cook out food in the summer. Hot dogs are as american as baseball, apple pie, and chevrolet. My favorite hot dog is Hebrew National. The regular hot dog has 150 calories, and the big dinner size hot dog has a whopping 270 calories. Hot dogs are kind of like Lays chips, no one can eat just one. I usually have 2 hot dogs. If I have just one I feel deprived and I'm still hungry. If I include the buns, and some slaw, I'm easily looking at half a days worth of calories. UGH! I can't justify that.
I found a hot dog that I really like. It tastes great and I don't have to stop and think about whether It's really worth spending my calories for. I saw a commercial recently about some kind of new Hebrew National Hot Dog, but I've never looked for it before. While browsing nutrition labels at the grocery store I discovered that they do indeed have a new hot dog. It is 97% fat free with only 45 calories per dog, and it's not a pitiful scrawny little thing, it's a nice bun length dog. I also discovered that Sara Lee has wheat buns that only have 80 calories per bun. So, when I do the math, I can have 2 hot dogs and buns with 4 tsp. dijon mustard, and 1.5 cups of broccoli slaw with 2 Tbs. of Newmans Own Lite Honey Mustard Dressing for a grand total of 378 calories. The best thing is that it's very satisfying, I don't feel deprived, and I'm not blowing half a days worth of calories for one meal. That's one of the keys to success.
