Back on track with walking

Friday, July 12, 2013

My energy level has been low; since Sunday, I have only walked one or two laps a day (I try to walk 4 laps around the park, which equals to 1 mile). Also, I've been waking up tired, my back hurting, and my joints hurting. I got up at 4:30 am today (having been plagued by a sinus headache all night), had coffee 'and' (biscotti) with my husband, listened to the news, and went back to bed. Got up again at 8:15 am; my back and joints weren't hurting as usual.

I decided to put on my iPod (listening to Diana Krall "Live in Paris") and go out and walk all 4 laps. I did it and a little more (walked back to take a picture of flowers, and then walked the dog afterwards). So, all in all, it's a good morning. I have so much to do in the house-I hope I can keep up the energy level. My concern is that once school starts, I will be so engrossed in lessons, paperwork, and time spent at school, I'll neglect my personal health (my modus operandi). I know I won't be walking in the morning (outside) and I like to be at school early.

I've got to create a plan; perhaps, get up early with my husband (he's up at 4:30 a.m. and during school, I usually get up at 5:30 am, leaving the house by 7 am or 7:15), exercise with an exercise video, shower, and go off to work. Also, I'll need to make sure I eat properly.

So happy you felt better today, and got a lot of walking in.

I'm sure you'll have it all figured out by the time school starts... emoticon

So sorry you're not feeling well hopefully you'll find your stride and your energy soon! I get plagued with sinus headaches and migraines too. I try to catch it early and head it off. Otherwise, chances are, I'm headed for trouble. One thing I have found that helps is either a steamy shower (so not fun in the summer!) or cold air (like winter or freezer cold). Some of my friends swear by something called a neti pot but I've never tried it. Instead, I'll do some nasal saline spray and drink 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and honey to taste in hot water. (That naturally thins the mucus secretions!)

Why not add your health efforts as a scheduled event to your daily planner? Maybe doing some prep the night before would help too? That's what I do the night before a shift since my shifts are 13 and 14 hours long. Makes the mornings less hectic for me. Best of luck on your journey! I have faith you can do it! emoticon

edited to add: When I was 50 pounds heavier, I was an insulin dependent diabetic. If I didn't have a solid grip on my sugar levels or drink enough water, I would get the muscle and joint aches and fatigue. Being extra diligent with my blood glucose monitoring, my diet, getting enough sleep and making sure I drank at least 8 or more glasses of water (just plain water!) really made a difference.
