Yesterday was cooler, which definitely helps my level of patience, so one by one I let the kids paint their projects. Three of them had one penguin; my grandson also had a "Bumblebee car", and one of the girls made another penguin and a Sealyham terrier. I coached them along, and explained to each that when they finished I was going to put on a glaze which, at the moment, APPEARS green, but it would turn clear and shiny in the firing. So of course when my grandson saw his beloved Bumblebee car - which from the day he'd made it he'd been nagging me to see it again - when he saw it after I applied the glaze, he cried out, "Why did you make it green?!" It's a good thing the weather was cool...! Anyway, I took pictures of them.
My daughter Abi (aka Glitterfairy77) said, "You're making memories." Ah, yes...the Summer of the Penguins...
I fired them last night, but they were still too hot to take from the kiln this morning. Just as well. I think I'll video the kids' reactions at the great unveiling.
Davante almost wiggles with delight.
Kegan: "This is the best day of my life!"
Dalia concentrates seriously.
Victoria is totally delighted with her 3 creations.
Giggly girls hover and watch as Lakeiah paints her penguin.
I think our next project will be dalmatians... although Kegan wants to make another vehicle of some sort. You know...boys n cars.
