Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in an All-Day meeting at work. Yup, one room, 9.5 hours, no opportunity for extra coffee runs.
The good news? Lunch was included! The menu was passed around and everyone selected their options. When the menu came to me, I panicked – looked like we’d be ordering from Panera Bread. A restaurant with “bread” in the title probably isn’t a good thing for someone who is trying to detox from carbs.
But then I remembered I had heard about a secret menu at Panera that might be right up my alley. I excused myself to run to my computer, performed a quick search, and found the Panera Hidden Menu ( mypanera.panerabread.com
) that became available nationwide earlier this year. I emailed the link to our administrative assistant, Amy, who was putting in our order and asked her if she could get me the Power Chicken Hummus bowl. I worried that maybe the hidden menu might be “too hidden” and didn’t want placing my lunch order to be an ordeal for Amy – but apparently there were no problems.
That’s chicken with cilantro jalapeno hummus, baby spinach, cucumbers, diced tomatoes & red onions. Served with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
I think I chose well. This meal kept me going for the rest of the afternoon – a good thing, as there were no additional snacks or opportunities for a coffee break in the agenda for the day. The only thing I found to be a little odd was that the lemon was sliced and included in the salad. Do people actually eat lemon slices? Not me. I would have thought a better plan would be to include a lemon wedge on the side for me to squeeze over my salad – instead, I found it to be kind of a nuisance picking out the lemon slices.
But other than that, kudos to Panera. While their hidden menu items can’t be found on any print menus, you can easily find the nutrition info online bundled with their non-hidden products.
