A Week in a Chocolate Store

Thursday, July 11, 2013

No, I didn't really just spend a week in a chocolate store, but it seemed as tough! Actually, I spent a week at my mother-in-law's. I've blogged about it before, but she keeps a LOT of junk food! I'm talking about bowls of chocolate sitting out! Hershey kisses, chocolate covered almonds, tiny candy bars, chocolate clusters. Oh my!!!

Besides the chocolate there are all kinds of baked goods - cookies, sweet breads, cake, donuts - which don't tempt me as much since I just tell myself they aren't very good. (How do I trick myself? I truly don't know!) And, almost everyone in the family eats these for BREAKFAST! Yes, even the cookies! Do you know how hard it is to eat right in this environment?

And then there are the chips. Monsters sized bags of every kind of chip you can imagine. And they get brought out for lunch, afternoon snack, dinner & late night snacks!

How did I handle it? Well, I asked her to buy some of my favorite snacks & lots of veggies & fruit. That really helped! But, usually by evening I just couldn't stand it and I'd dig in. Lots of chocolate and, one night, chips! Oh, and the chips with many meals. Ugh!

I came back weighing probably 2 pounds heavier. I was afraid to weigh in! But, today, after being home 4 days, I had a weigh-in... and I'm back to my pre-vacation weight! (We also spent 3 days in Vegas). WooHoo!!! I'm so excited!

Now, I just have 3.5 pounds to lose and I'll be back at my lowest weight for the past 12 months!!! Yes!!! Here we go!!

I was just on holidays & my grandma ALWAYS has cookies & treats out. And just when you think they're all gone..they plates are full again. It's so hard. But like you I bought some fruits & put it in a bowl beside the treats. I found it helped alittle.

WooHoo on being close to your lowest weight for the past year. You can do it.

Sounds like my Mamaw's house. She had those Brach's chocolate stars in bowls all over the house. Those things used to melt in my mouth. There's nothing wrong with indulging once in a while. Pick it up and get back on track. Those extra pounds will fly off with all the outdoor activities. It's going to be a perfect weekend almost everywhere so get out and burn it off. LOL emoticon

Wow sometimes being around other people's houses makes you realize how lucky you are to be at your own house. Less food distractions that way! emoticon

Consider: all the chocolate you described is really not very good chocolate. If you keep in mind that the only chocolate you deserve is the finest Swiss extra dark chocolate, those Hershey droppings can be ignored.

At least that's the theory I am working on. And as soon as I convince myself that I only deserve the best, I will let you know how that works out for me.

Wow - you must be made of steel. You did great and back to pre-vac weight already. Again, you inspire me. I'm heading to daughter's for the weekend and lots of chips, etc there all the time. I have renewed resolve.
