Great Weather for Gardening...

Thursday, July 11, 2013

Hi All,

Our weather has been great, most days are sunny and warm, today it is cooler but sunny. My gardens are enjoying all the sunshine. You should see our community gardens in the back of our complex, I will go out back and take a picture of mine and all the other gardens and share later.

I have my own personal flower garden that is attached to my own yard but not really enough room for a large vegetable garden. And thanks to our Tenant Association making Community Gardening possible we all had an opportunity to secure a garden plot for vegetable gardening out back.

As you know I am a part of our Tenant's Association here as one of their Director's and Recording Secretary. The Motion was brought to the Table and we all Voted on this to bring Community Gardens to our complex. This in turn encouraged young Mom's to participate and several of our Senior's who live here. We wanted to encourage them to get active and participate. It worked.

We knew of a fellow senior, active, living off site build container gardens for those who wished to participate, we also had him build raised gardens for those with mobility challenges.

It's amazing that with a little encouragement and the right person to build our garden beds how many have jumped on-board. All our gardens are flourishing..

I planted cucumber, beets, spinach, carrots and lettuce. My garden is growing in leaps and bounds. I plan to prepare and freeze these veggies for my winter surplus, and of course there is plenty for now...

In closing may you all have a great day...Let's Keep Pushing on Together...

That is a great thing! I don't live in an area with a community garden but it sounds like fun.

Oh that is so wonderful! Glad your garden is doing so well and that the community garden became such a success. How wonderful that raised ones are built for those who have mobility issues! I work with elderly and disabled and so often people don't really think of the issues they face. This is just awesome!
