My health makes eating so complicated!
I went to the doctor yesterday. He palpated my back and said "Your muscles are toned again this week! What are you experimenting on now?" He's been my doctor for over ten years. He knows me well. I told him about cutting out nightshades. He approves. He says that he isn't seeing the swelling and puffiness in my tissues that he is used to seeing. In fact, he looked at me and said "Have you lost weight?" (I haven't really - it's just a matter of seeing the real me without the puffiness for a change.) So . . . nightshades stay off the table. I plan to make a "no 'mato" sauce soon to see how that tastes.
The doctor asked me if avoiding nightshades has made me pain free. Unfortunately, the answer is no. It has made my pain less. But the pain is still there in a lower intensity. So now the trick is to figure out what might be triggering the pain. I won't be able to do an elimination diet until after August. You can't start one of those without being able to do the whole thing without interruption and we already have scheduled interruptions - trips and camp. But I'm thinking of cutting out gluten entirely. I eat very little - only one slice of bread for breakfast but of course that would still give me a daily dose. So that might be my next thing. I've done that before and it seemed to not make a difference but that was when I was still on nightshades. I'll have to go to the store and pick up some gluten free bread.
