Day 588- Thank You For Setting Me Straight

Thursday, July 11, 2013

As I read all of your wonderful comments, I realize you all are absolutely right.

I can't be ashamed of who I was because somewhere, in that 275 pound body, I finally found the strength to do what I needed to for me.

So while the pictures might remind me of the heaviest point in my life, they will also remind me of the strength I developed to change into who I am today.

And for that I must be thankful.

As always, my SparkFriends gave me the perspective I needed.

Thank you.

Good for you! It made me said to read that you couldn't stand photos of yourself in the past when you were heavier. That person was you at a different time on your life journey. Now you are stronger and healthier and it's time to mentally hug that sad, unhappy girl that you were and let her go. It's not you anymore. You rock!

Any and every time you feel that way, post or share. Your feelings are worthwhile and, when they are negative and ultimately unhealthy, hiding them won't resolve them and make them go away. But maybe, maybe your friends (spark and other) can help you talk yourself into healthier feelings.

I got heavy by binge eating to trying to hide, cover up, and otherwise not experience my emotions so I encourage you to experience, talk about, and resolve these feelings. Try having a little compassion towards yourself back then. Think of all you've learned since then.

And focus on all the good things about her...the good things about you.

As Maya Angelou is quoted as saying "I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better."

Speaking from my vast age (my grandson says I'm 175 ) emoticon

I promise you that not one single second of your life is wasted. One day you will look back and see just how important it all was.

Enjoy the journey

I have struggled with guilt and shame for letting a situation go on for so long in another area of my life. I came to realize that guilt and shame had no place in my life. That time in my life does not have to define me for the rest of my life. I am stronger for having gone through what I did and when I look back I pat myself on the back for how far I have come from that time in my life.

You are doing great!! Some people never learn to be thankful or change their perspective on things or truly reach out and share their lives with others. You are a wonderful example of those things and more!!!
