San Diego adventure

Thursday, July 11, 2013

I haven't blogged in almost a month but I have been having my usual fun so I'll share some photos. I invited my friend Chatty Cathy to join hubby and I for a mini vacation in San Diego where hubby is remodeling a kitchen of a home that will go on the market when it looks good. We did some walking, some shopping and plenty of eating. Chatty Cathy was born in Sicily so she wanted to see Little Italy

we had to keep our strength up to shop so we had a snack of cannoli

of course we had to visit the beach, of which the biggest problem is finding parking space, I hadn't seen the boardwalk for a long time so I was interested to see how things had changed over the years

this is the very first roller coaster I ever rode, I think I was about 6 years old

it still looks just as awesome and a little intimidating

now they have a bunch of restaurants too with a view of the beach

we also did some gardening of the overgrown garden at the house

after clearing out the plumbago from around the peach tree, we discovered a lot of fruit on it previously hidden

we also did a walk to the beach along an estuary/bird preserve (about 7 miles round trip) and saw plenty of interesting things

I don't know what kind of tree this is but the trunks grew ver interesting shapes

and it had interesting blossoms on it

also found interesting beach sculpture

finally made it to the beach with the pier in view

I have my foot in the pic so you can see how large the seaweed is

found crabs lurking in the rocks of the jetty

there was a memorial to the service men

and a statue dedicated to the lifeguards as well

school of surfing available too

and there were quite a few surfers taking advantage of the waves

we walked out on the pier

the pelicans were flying above

there were people fishing, and walking on the pier and we spied the starfish and mussels

CC hadn't been to Seaport Village before either so we had to take her to experience all the interesting shops

it also has great landscaping and those same odd trees were here too

and kite flying and weird rock balanced monoliths

and a duck family

and of course for seafood you have to go to Anthony's on the warf

we got to sit right by the window

we also hit up all the thrift shops we could find in the area, boy I'm exhausted just recalling it all
