Recovery

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Well both me and my Mom are recovering from the last few days. My Mom complained of pain in her right arm, so we were taken in early that morning. She has x-rays and blood drawn. Got her back home and the results were in. Had to take her right to ER. She needed 2 pints of blood. They could not find the source of her low blood counts. She had to stay in the hospital over night. I picked her up the next day.
It is hard because my Mom is 90 years old and she is very stubborn, those things can be hard to deal with. Just wish this had happened 2 weeks ago when my sister was home from Nevada. So they still do not know what caused this. Mom refused to have colonoscopy. She will not have surgery at 90 years old. I really cannot blame her. SO now we wait till Friday when the nurse comes to do another blood draw on my Mom and see if her counts are still ok. IF they are this will be a good sign if they are not, really do not know what we will do? It is so hard to take care of self when you are dealing with things like this. I was shocked I did my spark page all on my Ipad for the first time in her hospital room, at 11:30 at night. She did not want me to leave her till she had all her blood transfusions.

So I am praying she is ok now.

MY FATHER-IN-LAW WENT THROUGH THAT. HE TOO, REFUSED ANY TYPE OF SURGERY. HE WAS 93. AFTER HE PASSED AWAY WE DID REQUEST AN AUTOPSY BECAUSE WE JUST HAD TO KNOW WHERE ALL THAT BLOOD WAS GOING. TURNED OUT HE HAD A RARE TYPE OF LEUKEMIA CALLED "HAIRY CELL LEUKEMIA." IT NEVER DID CAUSE HIM ANY PAIN AND THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS LISTED AS ADVANCED PARKINSON'S DISEASE. BUT IF SHE CONTINUES TO NEED BLOOD, YOU MAY WANT TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET SOME FRIENDS TO DONATE IN HER NAME AS THE PRICE OF BLOOD IS SUP POSED TO TRIPLE IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. NEW HEALTH CARE BILL.

I guess I would tend to feel like your mom about surgery at that age especially if she's not in pain. Hopefully the transfusions do their job and she does well for a long time!

Hang in there, I know it is tough with aging parents. My Dad had a low blood count too and they gave him some blood and he is holding steady. My Aunt gets low blood counts from time to time and needs transfusions, but they never find the source of the bleeding. I'll say a prayer for your Mom and you. Hang in there!
