Five Adjustments to your life...

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

I am reading "YOU: The Owners Manual" by Michael Roizen, MD and Mehmet Oz, MD.
Interesting book! Here is a statement that I find to be right along with the Spark People way of thinking:

"If you make five-just five- adjustments to your life, you can have a dramatic effect on your life expectancy and the quality of your life. The five things are: controlling your blood pressure;avoiding cigarettes;exercising thirty minutes a day; controlling stress; and following an easy- to -love, healthy diet."

The way I see it, healthy diet and exercise will take care of at least two of the other things! Eat right and exercise and you will control stress and your blood pressure! And I guess that if you are leading a healthy lifestyle, you don't want to pollute your body with cigarettes either!

So what we are trying to do here to lose weight will lead us to a longer life too! Sounds like a deal to me!`I am already reaping some of the benefits in my life! I have more energy than before, I am enjoying the food I eat! I don't really" like" to exercise, but I like the fact that I am able to do more as I go along and it is helping me to feel better and lose weight! What more can you ask of a lifestyle! (I wish a healthy life gave you more money, but, oh well, We can't have everything!)

I am really glad I found Spark People and I think I will still be here even after I get to goal! Yea! Spark People! emoticon emoticon emoticon

love this- I find that you don't like to exercise until you find that one thing that makes your heart sing- exercise should be like going out to play... and you develop a body that can do it... so you have to be strong enough to love the workout...keep going- I am marching to a better working body also- and trying to find healthy food to eat

Brilliant! I think I might have to buy that book and read it for myself. I have to confess, though, I'm a walking contradiction. I am working to lose weight, I am slowly starting to add exercise to my program, I try to de-stress by meditating from time to time and my blood pressure has always been "normal". But I smoke. I know - horrible! Awful, disgusting habit. I have tried to quit, but I've never had any real success because the mental addiction is more powerful than my sheer willpower. It's on my list though. Some day, it is the monkey I will work hard to get off my back! Thanks for the reminder.

While a healthy lifestyle won't "give" you more money, it is less likely to "take" it in additional medications and health care costs. Just a thought.

I like the endorphins that kick in when I exercise hard... usually I tread water or swim crawl of jump up and down in the pool emoticon
