Well I got a nice reminder that I left you all hanging with a status update. So to catch up a bit on what is going on.

I got put on the injured reserve list by my dr last week. I've been having a tightness in my foot that is worse as the day goes on. There was a possibility that I may have a stress fracture in it. So I was told not to run or do any weight bearing activity for at least a week. This was 4 days before I was to run a 1/2 marathon. So with sadness I listened and didn't do my run.

The good news is I can ride my bike and swim. Now I've been struggling with my Open water swim (OWS). Just getting use to it and not panicking being able to swim the whole way free style. ect. Well our weather turned very nice here. So the past week was spent with OWS practice to the hilt.

Saturday June 29th: OWS practice in the morning with my husband kayaking. I did one loop with no back stroke. (about a 1/2 mile) and then another out and back.

Tues: July 2: OWS practice with a new group. We did 2 out and backs and then 1 loop.

Friday July 5: a 1 mile OWS at a new place

Saturday July 6: I looked at the lake a made up a course to do. Took me 26 min, that has been about my 1/2 a mile time. So I went again. At the end of that my arms where heavy and I was getting tired. Later I would track the course and Yes it is 1/2 for each loop! Second loop was faster than the first loop, by 4 min, and I did it all free style.

Sunday July 7th: Did a after greasy brunch later in the day swim. (boy did I feel that breakfast). The water was chopped up some. I only did one loop but did most all of it freestyle and worked on teqnic. Then I did a few out and back to some buoys and back (i.e.: other peoples crawdad traps).

Monday July 8: Back to the first place I had been practicing with my group. A evening swim. I did one loop there. I felt I could have done a second loop, but this was at 5:3o at night and it's a 40 min drive from my house. My husband and stepdaughter was home. I wanted to be with them, so I just did one lap.

We are headed back up to the lake and I will be doing some more OWS practice out there for sure!!! Also Kayaking and some bike riding.

I'm still targeting an August 4th triathlon, as I was swimming the last of the 1 mile loop, I had thoughts of an olympic race in my head. However I know I'm not conditioned for 3 hours of working out right now. And a 6 mile run not knowing what is going on with my foot is probably not a smart thing. So I will be sticking with the sprint and accomplishing it! The great news is I feel confidant in my swim now. I'm slow I will still be one of the last ones out of the water. But speed will come in time.

    Way to go with your swimming. I remember when you started and had panic attacks. What an improvement! I hope your foot heals soon. Glad you listened to your doc and stayed off it.

So sorry about your foot but hopefully the reset has allowed everything to heal properly so you can get back to it!
