wednesday makes a week

I haven't stuck to my "dialed" in paleo as much as I was planning, but I feel good about how I have done. No binges of any kind, the only cheat really has been a small amount of alcohol last friday with a pop. (it was the weekend, I deserved the break!)

Anyways, besides that, I've done great. I've even seen all the water weight empty me again, and I'm back down to 157lbs. Whenever I let the unhealthy foods creep back in, I do notice a small weight increase. Then I eat better, and it comes off in a week. Like I said, water. I have been experiencing some headaches lately. It started on Sunday morning. I haven't intended to, but I have been eating a fairly low carb diet. My breakfast is almost always, 3 eggs, bacon and coffee (black), lunch has been leftovers, and if there is only meat, then I eat salad. I've found I've had to snack, or dessert on fruit after my dinner due to my high activity level, I really need to carbohydrates. This helps with the headache a bit, but I usually suffer most in the early afternoon. My body is crazy sugar- refined carbs, and I don't want to give in.

I have read more of the book "Why we get fat and what to do about it" by Garry Taubes and have learned about why we get fat. Turns out- it's the carbohydrate consumption, and then the insulin spike from that. This, of course, is different on an individual level, and a person can change their sensitivity to insulin, yadda yadda, science, science. The lesson is, carbohydrates, specifically refined ones, are what make us fat. So, I'm trying for veggies, but man you really gotta eat a large salad to get enough!

My patio garden is growing nicely and I have been thinning /eating my arugula, so this is not a problem to eat lots of veggies!

A week down- going for another!

There is a competition at my gym this weekend- a minor one, for fun. It's a fundraiser for an athlete that is going to a high level competition in California in a few weeks, so we are teaming up to try and beat his score on a workout. Then there is a bbq, hopefully I can make smart choices. And if I do cheat- only minor things and a small amount so I don't go off the wagon.

OH yeah, and I am doing a summer ballet class twice a week for 5 weeks, I had my 3rd class last night. The teacher, who is also a friend, commented to me how skinny my waist has gotten. Sweet!

    I am just starting on this paleo thing, and so far so good for me...its only be a few days though...but I did find I am less snacky in the afternoon, which was always a big issue, but I am starting crave stuff at night..but it is okay...I woke up this morning and have a big headache, and I dont know if it is my body adjusting or I slept wrong....Anyway, sounds like you are doing a good job, and from all I've read, having a "cheat" day is not a bad thing, so a little pop and alchohol probably wont be terrible! Good luck on your gym competition, things like that always motivate me! The ballet class sounds like fun! Keep up the good work! emoticon emoticon

    Nice when you see progress! I'm plateauing on the scale, but the inches are decreasing...
