Surprises in the garden

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

My garden is a mix, of jungle and lush, with all the rain. The flowers are doing very well, as they are in the sun and love the water.
The timing is a bit off, as my usual 4th of July flower explosion, was a week off, but here are a few photos. Here is a Stargazer Lily.
My daughter's favorite with a heavenly smell. Her birthday is on Saturday and they are usually blooming for me to put on the table.

My vegetable garden is the worst I have ever had! It is slow and if you can believe it, too wet.
It is in a low spot that is usually perfect for our hot dry Summers, but it is crying for more sun.
There are a few good things, and I am sure my bounty will be coming, just much later than I am used to. This Zuccini, actually came up at the edge od my compost pile! A higher spot. emoticon
Kale has done very well and is beautiful as well as tasty.
Cabbage is coming along and I will be having coleslaw, soon.
I usually have tomatoes, by June 24th, but this is as far as they have gotten, this weird year.
Oddly enough, my pumpkins were early! Again a compost volunteer. They were taking over, so I pulled them up.
Surprise! Here I am in Ashley's garden. I bought new workout clothing...something I had not done in a long time.
A few Sparkfriends had asked for a photo. I love them.

So, there you go. the garden girl is having challenges in the veggie bed. That is a new one, but parallels some new challenges in the weight loss department.
All good. Learning something new every day and trying new things can be good.
Just like my veggies will come, later than I thought they would, so will my goal weight!
Maybe I am planted in a low spot too! emoticon

lovely garden, flowers and vegetables, I know about the tomatoes, mine did no good, I replanted most of them this year, not sure what happened to them, but I planted them in the front instead of back yard, and are getting strong, so here is hoping.

Beautiful flowers Chris and will make a lovely bouquet on the table for Ashley's birthday.

I love Zucchini, especially fried with tomatoes and onions, oh yum! I've never had Kale, have been told it's good and bad so I'm afraid to try it. Aww, the pumpkins were coming along, did you pull them all up? Did they come in the compost?

Beautiful work out clothes on a beautiful lady! Thank you for sharing all these lovely pictures, you do have a way with veggies, flowers, gardens.

I love your flowers. I just bought some cone flowers in just that color. I hope they do as well as yours.

We're having tons and tons of rain. My tomatoes have black spots on their leaves. I googled it and they said to stop watering so much, to let the ground dry out between waterings and to stop getting the leaves wet. Does that mean I need to build a shelter over the tomatoes???? I hope they pull thru.

Enjoy your beautiful garden and new work out clothes. Well done!

Love your joke about being planted in a low spot emoticon I think your flowers are beautiful and it is nice to know that someone like you with such a green thumb has garden troubles too. Yesterday on my walk I saw a yard that was full of Stargazer lilies. It was stunning and I should have stopped to check out whether they smell or not.

I have Cone flowers too but something always seems to eat the petals. Any ideas for me of what that could be?

My garden is also having interesting results due to rain - also because some things are having trouble getting picked!
