Worked last night, had a fairly good shift. Starting to get the hang of some of the paperwork and routines, but slow as Christmas. Just slow, slow, slow. Still got out on time, and met a dear friend for breakfast, though!
We hung out at Shoney's for 3 hours, just talking a mile a minute. We made sure the girl got a big tip, though, since we took up her booth for so long. They weren't covered over, and we were pretty low maintenance, but still, that's what you do when you use a place of business for a long social visit. It was fantastic! It was the kind of visit that feeds one's soul.
Then I was almost in a head-on collision on the way home, which certainly got my attention. I've been a car and truck girl all my life, and driving is a particular pleasure of mine. It's one of the things which I can unreservedly say I do well, even in a minivan that handles like a barge. I'm not going to go into a long, drawn out description of what happened, I managed to avoid impact, and nobody in the other 3 cars were hurt. I dearly wanted to beat somebody's ass, though, for being stupid. Don't drive too fast for the road you're on, don't follow too closely, and don't panic slam on the brakes if you see trouble in front of you. At least the third driver had the sense to go to the grass rather than into the oncoming lane.
Was too wired to sleep well, after all that. Got about 4 hours. Went to yoga class anyway, and feel much better for it. Amazing what one can do when there is not a puppy chewing on your nose!
All the garbage is out to the curb and the dishwasher is running, so I'm going to declare today a victory after all. Sometimes it is just the plain ordinary business of living that means the most.
