I too agree...napkins are frivolity!! lol

& lmfao @ "The place where ďadorableĒ and oneís hopes and dreams go to die." & LOVE "All employees put their brain cells into a blender to make one big, mediocre brain Ė thatís big and slow to act. [Kind of like Congress.] "

So sweet of the kids to notice your old/gross bag & upgrade you...lol. Enjoy it & hope you've done lots of good stuff with it by now.

My second main thought about this post (after "She's hilarious!!") is: "Is she sure no one from her work sees this? :)"

A Coach bag instead of napkins? Now that IS special! Sounds like you are training these children well...

Re: work - I recommend a killer book that just came out by Chip and Dan Heath called "Decisive." It's about how humans make decisions (pretty badly, it turns out) and how to improve the decision making process, especially the corporate ones.

OMG, I just knew it was a pack of napkins emoticon . Awesome blog.
Let me join in on the job bonding. Yuck. We have been redepartmentalized and reorganized and re-irritated to the hilt. Now the new subdepartment with the 4 new uber managers who do not know s _ _ _ need weekly meetings to pick the brains of their underlings who know all and get 1/2 to 1/3 their pay.
Enough. About the gorgeous new Coach bag, Do a dump and switch and rock out your gorgeous bag. It is your gift woman. emoticon

I understand what you are saying...prior to retirement, my pet peeve was office meetings. You need to find something else that makes you happy. As for the purse, it's awesome.

I love to read your blogs. emoticon

Thanks so much for getting my day off on the right foot - with a emoticon ! I was so sure as I read along that they were going to give you cloth napkins along with matching place mats! emoticon But a Coach bag is ever soooo much more practical and wonderful! Those kids are definite keepers in my book! They must get one heck of an allowance, too! emoticon

Why do they ask those same questions in EVERY meeting and job interview? I think it's a severe lack of gray matter creativity. Put your feelers out there and see what happens with new job possibilities.

I don't own a Swifer Wetjet, but now that I know how much you love it, I may have to give it some serious consideration! emoticon

My go-to "napkins" come on a lovely tear-off roll, so handy! I tell everyone that they are modern-day Irish linen cloths. If you really want fancy, they come in various designs according to the holidays!
Now could I ever relate to the committees, retreats, team-building exercises etc. ad nauseaum. I don't believe they ever worked, only served to irritate and then everyone went back to doing exactly as they did before. My only consolation was to think, at least I was being paid to listen to this foolishness, and I got out of working a busy day in the clinic (nurse). Perhaps your present job, as uninspiring as it is, may enable you to focus on other things you really want to do, such as writing (?!).
Personally, I quit my job a few years ago, now have set myself up as a health care consultant. I can do most of my work from home and don't have to sit on a single committee!!
Love your purse, by the way!
    Take care,
    Kathy

I seriously thought they were going to give you napkins LOL
I don't buy ANY paper products, much to the dismay of the occasional visiting family member. One time, I returned from work to find my dad waiting for me. With a big ol' grin, he said, "I got you a surprise...(*smile* *pause for effect*)...PAPER TOWELS!" --- wish it had been a schmancy bag. You're lucky.

Today was kinda sucking until I read your blog, thanks. I have to say I do not buy napkins either. I just drape a paper towel over my giant boobs :). It works for me and it helps my hubby as well cuz his tummy is his food catcher. Mine would be too but my boobs are on the "front line" of food assaults.

Enjoy that new designer bag beautiful...you so deserve it.

Great blog, as always......left me laughing. We started "Coaching sessions" instead of reviews, which were always late to begin with. This is to be more "like one" big happy family yeah......it was supposed to be done in 2 weeks that was 3 months ago emoticon

Funny doesn't that show that I am so valuable?
Itís not that my job is awfulÖ

I just donít want to be there anymore.

And itís not that the people are awful.

I just donít want to be around them anymore.

Itís not about money or my boss.

It just feels like a lot of nothing. Nothing I care about or want to do or perceive any value in anymore.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Thanks for the laugh emoticon

You NAILED kids' gifts and committees with their associated and annoying meetings!!! Absolutely nailed it!

As for the cat, well . . . gotta love their enthusiasm when it comes to cleaning things up for ya, don't ya!

Ok, I couldn't even go into the unidentified food objects that have fallen in between my poor underfed little boobies! What can I say.

    HUGS and smiles.

Share your views on committee meetings (and although I avoid these a lot of the time . . . have one set up for tomorrow).

So sorry that the job isn't your thing any more . . . after getting the grad degree, it's kinda hard to cut loose I'm betting.

LOVE the bag -- wow! These kids are keepers for sure!! They totally got that you aren't a napkins person . . . I'm good with paper towel. Or a Kleenex. Or even in a dire emergency a chunk of toilet paper if it's not too formal an occasion . . .

Loved the blog: all the usual hilarity and . . . yeah. I'm hoping that you are able to find a new job. We spend too much time at work for it not to be more fun/satisfying than that, really.

I am not a purse person. That does not mean I don't have any. I have a purse that's too small, a ginormous purse that won't die and I have another purse that's just right size but the handle/zipper/clasp (whichever) is no longer functional.

I LOVE your purse! I am SO jealous!

But you missed the chance for a great closing line: either that the purse came with napkins in lieu of that useless paper filler or that you now have something that you could use to cover the next bird carcass on your porch when those kidlets are due to come by.

    Thanks for another entertaining blog!

That little niece and nephew of yours sound as if they really love you.

I think the most important thing about any job is that you feel it is relevant - and that what you are doing is worthwhile.

You can wear your new Coach bag when you go on job interviews.

    Go for it!

OMG! When your blogs are about work; I'm so glad I'm retired! 12 years later and I still have nightmares about things "like" committees! So glad most of my education and career predated all this current "togetherness" where 1- 2 people end up doing the work of 6 plus the bots that called the meeting to begin with!
So obvious those kids really LOVE you! Their mom obviously likes you too. Cool Aunt, napkins or not. :) Thanks for the smiles. emoticon
